Are there exit polls? How quick will we get first glance? If it is really close, we may not know for a while. But will we know quickly if it really is that close?

Have not followed british polls close enough to know, how it goes.

There are no exit polls because exit polls can only make predictions when compared against data acquired from earlier exit polls.

This is only the 2nd referendum in over 40 years (and there was no exit poll in 1975) so there is simply no baseline data to compare an exit poll with. Exit polls are expensive and paid for by TV companies, the TV companies have decided not to commission one for this referendum as the lack of baseline data means any exit poll is guaranteed to be inaccurate.

Every British citizen who lives abroad or wants to go on holiday abroad will have to shell out £72.50 for a new passport as all current UK passports have "European Union" in shiny gold letters across the the top
Now thats what I mean by scare mongering.

You have first hand information on this of course. No way according to you could the present PP be used till it expires then the new one omits EU bit.

Huh? Exit polls simply ask folks how they voted. In any case announcing exit poll data before the poll close is illegal in UK.

That's not how exit polls work, it's not that simple , the reasons why are easily found on the web so I'm not going to cut and paste here but basically it's because you can't trust everyone to tell the truth so other methods of verification are needed.

Yes, it's illegal to announce the results of exit polls until after the polls close but that's not relevant to this referendum as there are no exit polls anyway

A majority is all that is needed, so potentially only one vote will "decide".

(If we conveniently forget all the other votes)

All exit polls are for private media companies or the BBC and no matter who commissions them they have to comply with the rules. There may be some small polls of the straightforward "who did you vote for" going on but there are no national ones for this referendum as those who normally commission them are not willing to spend the money for something that, in this case, has a very high chance of being totally unreliable.

When I went to vote this morning there was nobody asking questions the polling station at all, normally there would be one or two pollsters and a small army of party bean counters asking for your voter number and who you voted for.

Tell me, what did the digitalspy post containing the link you found the passport pic at say? What did the thread say. Here's the link, btw, Old blue passports - General Discussion - Digital Spy Forums lSee the thread title? Follow on down to the discussion with the confused chap who thinks it's black?

What do HMSO and the passport office say is the colour used on the pre-EU passport?

    And, while we're at it

    The old blue passport[edit]

    UK passport 1924
A 32-page passport with a dark blue cover, commonly known as the old blue style,[17] came into use in 1920 with the formation of the Passport Service following international agreement on a standard format for passports, and remained in use until replaced by the European Union-style machine-readable passport in late 1988. As with many documents worldwide and all booklet-format documents, details were handwritten into the passport and (as of 1955) included: number, holder's name, "accompanied by his wife" and her maiden name, "and" (number) "children", national status. For both bearer and wife: profession, place and date of birth, country of residence, height, eye and hair colour, special peculiarities, signature and photograph. Names, birth dates, and sexes of children, list of countries for which valid, issue place and date, expiry date, a page for renewals and, at the back, details of the amount of foreign exchange for travel expenses (a limited amount of sterling, typically £50 but increasing with inflation, could be taken out of the country).[18] The bearer's sex was not explicitly stated, although the name was written in with title ("Mr John Smith"). Descriptive text was printed in both English and French (a practice which still continues), e.g., "Accompanied by his wife (Maiden name)/Accompagné de sa femme (Née)". Changed details were struck out and rewritten, with a rubber-stamped note confirming the change.
If details and photograph of a man's wife and details of children were entered (this was not compulsory), the passport could be used by the bearer, wife, and children under 16, if together; separate passports were required for the wife or children to travel independently.[19] The passport was valid for five years, renewable for another five, after which it had to be replaced.[20]
The passport had a printed list of countries for which it was valid, which was added to in handwriting as validity increased. A passport of 1955 was valid for the British Commonwealth, USA, and all countries in Europe "including the USSR, Turkey, Algeria, Azores, Canary Islands, Iceland, and Madeira";[21] during its period of validity restrictions eased and it was endorsed "and for all other foreign countries".[22]
Reckon I've won that argument Would you like to start one about the quality of colour reproduction on the screens of electronic devices

Looking like a bumper turn out.

    Two more votes for Leave

Our ward is normally a 40-45% turnout, the people working at the polling station reckon the turn out today is double.

First result in. Gibraltar, 95.9% for remain. Not really surprising considering their peculiar situation. General opinion, including Farages, seems ti be that Remain has won by a narrow margin.

The results of exit polls commissioned by banks remain for employees eyes only. The subsequent sharp rise in sterling values after 10pm is just a coincidence surely.

Out win in Sunderland by a very large margin, pushing out into a narrow lead. Instantly the pound has dropped from $1.50 to $1.44. Got some live graphs on my screen here and the drop made me think my internet connection had dropped. Buy now !

^Sterling values will be up and down dramatically all night, there will be some very stressed currency traders over the next few hours.

Farage bloviating on TV, bright red and sweating like a pig too. Apparently it's all the fault of Jo Cox for getting herself killed, also too many voters are registered, and he won't accept a remain result anyway. Wanker!
