Agreed. I believe that the core of 'Brexit' support is from those whom could be considered grass roots socialists/Labour supporters. They are the ones who have been most affected by the shortage of housing due in part to the increase in migrant numbers, as well as the expansion in competition for employment for the same reason.
The core supporters of 'Remain', or at least those given the most media coverage, are those associated with the economy, i.e. bankers, city types etc. These are perceived as panicking as their inflated salaries and annual bonuses could be at risk.
Overstating the risk to the economy in the event of a Brexit I think has only made more (bull) dogged a significant desire for the country to stand on it's own two feet.
You may find this rather odd as I did,but the Unions are hardly Bankers or Indeed City types are they ?
UK trade union leaders call on 6 million members to vote remain | Politics | The Guardian
One thing is for sure, there will.be a lot of cross party blood.letting come 24th June. I foresee a snap general election and for both Cameron and Corbyn to relinquish thier respective party leadership.
The next two weeks are going to see an acceleration of personal attacks and discrediting of claims on both sides. A lot of bridges are.going to be burned for sure.
An example......

Are these the uneducated, semi-literate, benfit claiming, cloth-capped dummies who vote Labour because their parents voted Labour ? Or, perhaps, the upper class twats who like to associate with poor people because it makes them feel good ?Originally Posted by piwanoi

But polling cards weren't sent in time notifying expats to apply for a postal ballot by 5pm 8 June.Originally Posted by DrB0b

Suuuuuuure! You'd think all these pundits who've been pontificating about this for years wouldn't have actually needed a reminder, what with their fingers on the pulse, their ears to the ground, and their arses in the air they should have been raring to go.
Anyway, late polling cards is a myth.
What actually happened is that the lazy expat windbags didn't bother to notify the electoral authorities that they wanted to be on the electoral register. It's the voters responsibility to register, not the governments responsibility to chase them. If people like Piwi are too stupid to keep their details up to date, their responsibility, then they shoud shut the fuck up about issues they have deliberately chosen to have no influence over.

The post here is non existent, I often get my monthly true TV magazine a month late ,and my monthly bill for my true TV and Computer hardly ever arrives so much so that I pay 12 months in advance to save being cut off, I have had it out with Jan a few times to go and complain to the PO at Prakonchai , but you know what they are likeit was my birthday May 4th, all my kids sent me a card plus my 3 sisters sent a joint one , I got them June 2!!!
Bollox. Registration is online and so is the postal voting form. It's got nothing to do with postal delivery times to Thailand as there's no reason for you to receive anything through the post.
You're just a lazy windbag who couldn't be arsed to register and print out the voting form even though it takes less than 5 minutes. Hypocrite!
DrB0b, you are talking bollix. I received my card a week or so ago. It took 16 days to arrive. It came via Holland. I shall have great pleasure tomorrow in posting a picture of my Poll Card with my Thai address clearly printed on it.Originally Posted by DrB0b

I guess many of us UK expats will mot be voting for one reason or another. Doesn't remove our need to observe or comment however.
From an observing point of view, we are by and large making assessments/arguments based on the media, with it's inherent prejudices for either side, with a healthy sprinkling of sensationalist reporting.
Many also have friends/relatives in the UK who have strong opinions.
On a personal level, I'm disqualified from voting having not lived in the UK for the past 22 years, and as such even if I could vote, I'd choose not to as whatever the outcome is the affect on me personally will be minimal.
That said, if I were to vote, it would be for 'Leave', and that having spent 10 happy years in Spain before coming here 9 years ago.
