Yes
No
Let the Pomgolian, Brittle, B'stards sink, burp!
No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were:
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.
John Donne

Didn't the french put metric together ? back in the good ole days.Originally Posted by Dragonfly
The reference, in this case the meter, is not the important part.
It is the decimal system used by the Egyptians 5000 years ago and since then used by almost all advanced civilisations that is important.
deci, centi, milli hekta, kilo, mega applies to weight(gram), volume(liter) and distance(meter) to name the most common ones.
Hmm, Egyptians, eh? 1 emm to 6 djebba, 1 djebba to a quarter shesep. A pedjaa to 3 sheshep while a menedjes is, of course, the equivalent of a djeser and 2 shesep. I always say that these days you don't get many hekatfedu to a Khar and a couple of deben of gold will barely get you 2 hnw of wine or a shematy of coke. Mind you, there are 10 arouras in a kha and 100 setat in a tat so the Egyptian system is not entirely alien to the ideals of 18 Germinal, Year 3.Originally Posted by lom
I've always been happy with both systems, kinda like slugs and knots and chains and etc.,...
Back on to Brexit (only 2 days to go before the mini Brexit warm-up) ...
I don't agree with the idea that there is no democracy and the EU is ruled by a bunch of bureaucrats, something I keep hearing from leave campaigners. The comparison is on a par with the civil service and "Yes Minister" pretty much sums it up, be it UK or the EU. Having said that, I am not happy about the apportioning of EU MEPs on a Country population basis. I think this was initially to reduce the numbers for West Germany to keep it at the same level as France (admit I plucked that one out of nowhere) which changed shortly after the wall came down.

I think the representation should be changed according to gross contributions (or net if that makes it better for the UK)
If the UK do leave the EU, I think it could end up being worse for Germany and France rather than better. However, the leave campaign have failed to explain the way forward and are likely to dither themselves into oblivion if they win.

Britain will be the biggest loser.
The idea some posters here have that EU will fall apart while Britain will prosper is only misdirected nationalism. Britain's greatness is since long gone.

Three hours left to register to vote. If you don't or haven't already then kindly STFU, your opinion is worthless.
Mind you, it's not necessarily worth anything even if you do register.
All you Brexit fans this is worth watching![]()
