I lived in Kalamazoo for 3 years in the late 90's. It is, indeed, a very pleasant place. Whilst I was there I heard no gun shots, or heard of any gun crime. The only guns I ever saw were the occasional hunting rifle or holstered handguns carried by the police. The family never felt anything but safe...

The USA is indeed very violent, does anyone actually stop and ask why?

Part of the drug gang war, decriminalize the drugs and the gang wars would dissipate.
Treat drug addiction as health issue, not a criminal one, and crime goes down.

The problem is that when a coward gets a gun in his or her hands it makes them into some sort of a hero. Someone who would not otherwise have the balls to kill can now do so from a distance, they dont even have to get close to their victim, dont even have to see the blood if they dont want to, dont even have to know the victim and hay they might even get away with it as they can shoot from hiding.

Take away the gun and they revert to a coward, doesnt apply to all but the short of it is that guns give the opportunity to put violent thoughts into action.

Doing so means you aren't really addressing the problem, of what is causing the culture of violent behavior.
