SILs advise that many buyers discount 15-20% regardless of weather..frickin robbery methinks.!
Just sold some rubber today, about 20,000 Bahts worth, no discounting for water content, flat rate per kilo 23 Baht.
It has become local practice around here now, for farm gate buyers to set flat rates, so for the seller the wetter the better.
A bit of manipulation by the buyers, they get together and set a flat rate each day as to the main buyers set daily price.
The main buyer in their case is a crepe rubber middleman, he wants clean wet rubber, gate buyers really can't lose if they buy and sell same day.
Other buyers want dry rubber [tire rubber] higher price, but buy on dry rubber content, so discount for water content.
Problem for me and most sellers is simple, low prices mean we need the cash now, can't wait to let it dry and get a better price in a few weeks time.
Good news is the price is going up, wet cup was 15 Baht a kilo at the end of last season, today 23 Baht a kilo and climbing.
At some point, hopefully, we will not have to sell rubber every week or so just to cover living expenses and can start to hold on to the rubber and value adding by drying or processing it.
