A paper straw uses 220% more energy to make than a plastic one.

It might well do, I don't know. I didn't mention paper straws. I am talking about reusable bamboo straws. A couple of HK friends carry their personal bamboo straws with them everywhere they go. I'm not sure how much that compensates for their V8 Merc and regular air travel though.

Personally, I can't remember when I last used a straw. As Paul said: when I became a man, I put away childish things. (1 Corinthians.)
Of course, I might get around to straws again if I reach Shakespeare's seventh age of man: second childishness and mere oblivion, Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

And a draw full of unused plastic straws that seem to come with any drink you buy at 7-Eleven.

I usually tell them I don't want straws but sometimes they don't ask me and sneak them into my bag. I just bin them when I get home.

I'm not usually one to complain but we came down to the Dorset coast today and it's bladdy raining. Still, this brings back a lot of childhood memories... holidaying at seaside resorts in the pissing rain.

The pub has it's own car park out the back. I reckon I've saved at least £20 in parking today so effectively I'm drinking cider for free.

^^ Thanks Mike, I think a day in Weymouth to visit the Sealife centre is in order this week. The next nice day will be spent fossil hunting at Lyme Regis.

We're both pretty much laid out today... must have caught some kind of nasty bug on the way over. Just had a walk around the harbour and now just want to lie down, completely knackered.

The pub doesn't have Sky but I can watch the cricket on my phone and maybe test out my theory that dry scumpy kills off all known stomach bugs. I'm just not up to the exertion of Monopoly today.
