Bit of work in progress going on here

Its not a good subject photo I have been given to work from from somebody , but I have been given artistic licence to do with it what I want

This is a painting in the Lake district of my friends wife sitting on the bridge mourning the loss of they're dog after she has just scattered the ashes below the bridge .

Some really great news today ,, I am on the brink of being awarded 3 big commissions for a very wealthy business man who has just caught sight of my latest Thames barge painting , and in his words , that is just the beginning as he likes my work and has many walls to fill , he has already told me money won't be an issue , so fingers crossed
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

    Beats working for a living!

Nice bit of dry stone walling there, typical of the Lake District and north of England.

555 well that would be nice mate , but thats never going to happen , its a nice little bit of supplementary income though , this week has been exceptional I have sold 3 paintings and made £175 profit cash in me hand , which is a very nice bit of income from my hobby .

BTW thats not a dry stone wall 55 , thats a dried up rocky waterway , as I said there is a long way to go on this one yet , being oil I have to be patient and let the drying process take place before I can move on with it .

I have as much talent as you in my little finger.

    No, seriously.

The rest of my body is art-talent-less, yours obviously isn't.

    Very nice, indeed!

There certainly isn't mate and that's what makes you a great guy I think. down to earth, tell it like it is.honest as the day is long and can I say cuddly ?

Anyhow, I think this piece is your best work yet and I hope you don't mind me mentioning your son, but that's where you are nearing om this one ,
I was going to say attention to detail but it's not, it's eyecatching, soothing and a work of art

Its superb at the abstract stage too Nige and honestly I'd stick that first rough sketch on my wall

I think all you need to do now Nige and I'm not too keem on the painting or the ideology behind the genius conception that is under your nose and that poor dog, is sort out a website and title it Magic Moments or Dillingers Drawings and just capture peoples most memorable moments on a landscape.

I'm willing to take Topper out for half an hour to do this, for 50% of the revenue

Aw thanks mate ,, its a great hobby to have and if only a few would give it a go they would realise .

You don't have to spend a lot of money , just a cheap little box of paints a bit of paper and some cheap brushes , ( yes I use better stuff ) have a drive out into the country , a nice quiet spot when you are beginning sit down + paint whats in front of you , the time will just fly .

Infact last week I caught sight of a magazine article comparing how unhappy ( some ) very rich people were and how no matter how much money they had made they felt they're lives unfulfilled and how how some of these life coach type's were trying to steer some of them toward art to bring sanity into they're lives . Wont work for everyone of course , but some will discover a new path .

Its just so peaceful sitting in front of nature with the birds singing etc

As I got more confident I now sit out and paint where I actually can meet people ,, most like to stop and show interest , and where I paint here in the backwaters behind where we live people know me and come along for a chat , its great for those long weekends I spend alone whilst Jans doing her 12 / 13 hour shifts in the care home .

I posted this on my 'Stained Glass' thread but that thread doesn't see a lot of activity. Hope you don't mind it here. Congrats on getting recognition of your talent. It's well deserved.

Nigel, I know you are only painting for enjoyment and to meet people, but that profit is showing that you are selling way, way under market value.

Sheesh, I went to a little bitty mall in the middle of suburban Jakarta yesterday and they had a sketches and sketches with water colour on sale. A little ordinary to be honest. And of local life, as in the mall, and local churches etc. nothing special. Even a sketch of the mall itself.

Cheapest sketch was $200. The water coloured sketches/paintings where selling at a $1,000

None of them were bigger than A3.

I know what your saying Wills but I have to try to get a foot in the door , its difficult to get started and unless you are exceptionally talented people will not buy

What I have found is you need a name , when your name is known the price goes up for sure.

A small A5 size painting I did for a guy in that last group of 3 was only £60 framed in a really nice frame , he even commented to me are you sure ? when I asked him why he explained he had seen a similar size local painting by a known local artist in a shop for sale for £185 , now of course the shop has a cut of that , but its a big step up to earning a living in that price range.

He also commented it wasn't as good as the one I have done him , which was nice .

Another thing is , most the people I paint for are work mates , and we are all on crap money , so I feel uncomfortable at asking them for too much , however its getting my name up on peoples walls and the enquiries keep coming in .

I will have to ease em up gently and see what happens

    Thanks for the observation

Agreed. Your work is great, price it as such.

That's different, you do have to look after mates.

I dunno, I reckon bang them to a similar level. But then tell your mates and other interested customers that you can discount for them.

and TBH , you have both although jokingly ,, hit the nail on the head .

People won't pay money for art , other than about what you can cover your costs and make a bit of pin money on the side .

Of course if you have the name , like this young man at age 13 ,, has £3million in the bank and 4 houses in different locations , one being in Cornwall ( pang ) in his portfolio already .
