    ^Good luck with that mate.
You are right about not needing the receipt, I have a Tab in Samsungs Service centre in MBK. Don't go there though, the queue was shocking on Monday and they still havent got back to me although the last 2 days have been public holidays.
I think there's one in Pantiip, if that's any better I don't know

^ Cheers - I'll check out Pantip, but I like to go to head office first - saves dealing with 10 fuckers that all tell you the same shit while boring the fuck out of you hoping that you'll just go away

If it switches off by itself I'd suspect the battery connection first.
My SGS1 did that a couple of times. I wiggled the battery some and it hasn't reoccurred.
I've dropped it a few times too.

Nothing wrong with the SGS Boo. You can download custom roms to it and extend its life considerably if the hardware holds out.

In fact there is an Alpha of CM10 already (Android 4.1).

    ^ the processor, 'Arry, it's virtually a Vic20...

I'm gonna get a quad core or higher soon; I want power. When I switch from my 1Ghz (like the S1) to the missus 1.4Ghz dual core, there is a very noticeable difference. My Sony is good for the money, but with a few apps running it lags a second or 2... Power is King.

^ You don't need a Quad core in a phone. 1 Ghz is plenty fast enough
My guess is you are leaving loads of apps running in the background.
Do you have an App Killer? it will save your battery life too

That's the point of a custom rom. A lot of the enhancements are for performance.

And you do know you can overclock, don't you?

stop it with the language and geeky stuff. Bigger is better, power is King, the S3 has quad power and I want it. Period.

the latest gingerbread from Samsung really perked the SGS1 up significantly. Should be able keep up for another year or so.
I was reading on xda forum how quite a few folks have ditched custom ROMs for the last piece of gingerbread.

Yes...... and if you read carefully, you'll find them installing custom Gingerbreads with the Samsung offal removed.

I didn't get that deep since the phone was working well and it seemed like the "whatever" I needed to root the phone wasn't available anymore. I decided to quit wasting time and fiddling with something that works.
Especially after experiencing a terribly clunky SG2 with a custom ROM. I hated that setup.

I'm not convinced with these custom ROMS, I mean teams of professional developers make a product then Somchai and Somsak spend a weekend playing around to release their 'custom ROM'... Always seems like pimpin your ride to me.

But 'Arry is a gooner, so you can't expect too much from him, poor dear...

I grasp the concept that manufacturers with massive resources and highly skilled s/w teams do a better job than Somchai and Somsak, who have a IT 'certificate' between them, working out of their bedroom can do...

^That can be quite true, but don't loose sight of the fact that those massive resources that the manufacture has are controlled and directed by the companies marketing people.... who will cripple a feature they don't want in the product.

Why do you think the iPad cannot send SMS's, or be used as a phone.... unlike the galaxy tab? There's no hardware or software reason.

For internet connectivity I use a Buffalo WHR-G300N, with a third party rom from DD-WRT. It does more and is considerably more stable than the original firmware that came with the router.

^ yes, it's swings and roundabouts to an extent, but I try never to agree with 'Arry because he is a gooner, scum of the earth...
