I own both, and I'm still trying to figure out the purpose of the Fire- it sucks for reading, and is marginal for web browsing.

Although if you read what I posted in the Kindle Thread, there is a Kindle Colour reader mooted.

I don't see how it sucks for reading, I use it when travelling all the time for that exact purpose. Ditched the Kindle ages ago. I use it for colour mags too, but not video since I prefer the netbook for that.
