Neo, you're the professional here, mate. Please help.Originally Posted by Neo
OK, I tuned it in, love the guitar (excluding the colour...), but all the frets seem to have moved 3 places, maybe even 4 or 5 places, towards the body and away from my relaxed fretting hand. WTF is going on with that???
Cycling should be banned!!!
Should have got one of these.....Originally Posted by Bettyboo

Standard tuning is EADGBE
Eddie
Ate
Dynamite
Good
Bye
Eddie
If your tuning is way off you need a tuner that can give you a low E tone to work to.
Start with the top E string, the thick one, play it open and get that tuned to E and then work off it.
Be very careful with the lower strings, especially the unwound ones as they tend to snap, the best method is to work them a bit at a time and turn the tuner down then up each time, always do it like this.. down then up. Also with new strings work along the string and pull the strings up away from the fret and ping them down to stretch them evenly and stop them snagging on the nut.![]()
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"
^^ didn't see that... well you got it sussed then.
Yup it's a thing of beauty Betty, makes you wanna pick it up and work ya fingers all over it![]()

Thanks for your comments throughout the thread, Neo - nice to have somebody who knows how to play on the thread...
The SG neck is well into the guitar and only 22 frets so very different from me Ibanez. The Ibanez neck is easier to move around but not natural to me. This neck is just like a toy, it's fun and inviting to play. I've just basically been moving all arond the neck and playing sounds I've never played before - it's a very very easy and fun guitar to piss around on. It also feels quality and musical (whatever that means). Enjoying...
Dil, you are so gay that you could become a Shifter groopy, but I prefer you sleep with Stoker, the BucketMan and Issan Chang before me...
I believe that most rock and blues guitarists use 'half step down' tuning
ie. D#, G#, C#, F#, A#, D#
Half Step Down Tuning
^ only the woofters, my frined Mr Pale.
The real men, very real men, all, firstly play SGs (no exceptions), and secondly play Eddie Ate Dynamite Good By Eddie, slightly out of tune (in various ways).
Now, I've had an epiphony this evening. Jimi, 2 bib James as I call him, has just a great fluid and relaxed strumming technique. All that sound that 'sound' that appears to be amazing fret work is nothing of the such, he has a wonderful strumming wrist - that's where the sound lies ladies and gantlemen...
Now, here's something else of note:
That'd be an SG.
So, one more fact about the batty man emerges - he prefers sloppy seconds, thirds or fourths.Originally Posted by Bettyboo

I quite like this guy and his courses, plays really nicely:
The little amplug is good, but... I might be able to justify a little portable number that I can throw into my luggage when I leave:
3500 baht or so...
Was just musing to meself... Here are me 2 guitars:
Not too different are they? Hmmm. Similar looking and similar prices; the Ibanez is a bit more expensive. The SG is a lot better guitar: better tuners, better sounding pickups, much better bridge. Easier and more fun to play too.
Where's the whammy bar??
