Here mate... there's a lot of stuff on YT which is a great help, Justin Sandercoe and Marty Shwartz probably the best two teachers on there, but this one video was probably the biggest help to me... you know scales, you know chords.. but putting them together for some great sounding blues is quite challenging, this guy is a geetar nerd, but the lesson is invaluable, don't be put off by how complicated it looks at the beginning or his music theory... the bit in the middle is where it's at, just take it slow. I hope it helps.

I've got a Fender Strat HSS with the the trem locked so I can give it decent bends, and the nut replaced to give me a string spacing I feel more comfortable with and I use a Blackstar HT-1R amp which is just fokking glorious for the sub £200 price, i tried a few different amps before settling on that one. I don't play everyday, and I'm not great, but it's great therapy man
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

    This one...

I paid £380 for it.. tbh though, it needed a couple of mods as I said, and I could probably get a s/h American Strat for the same money off Gumtree, but it's new, it's mine. Very versatile, has a coil tap in the Humbucker (!!?)

I don't know how they work it out, nobody really does methinks but it's a valve amp and equal to the 15 watt solid state Marshall I had before... only it got valves... it sound lurrvely.

Bastards have been pissing around a bit, so I've booked a taxi to Muscat, and I'll be picking the guitar and amp up late this afternoon. The risk being that once I get there I'll change me mind a few times about everything...

The only thing you'll be picking is your scabby buttocks.

I bet you come back with a new telephone instead - with a guitar App.

We're there... A bit of an effort, but got what I wanted, just unpacked and plugged in - very very happy. For the money, about 250 squids all in, it's the dog's bollocks - especially as the couple of guitar shops in Muscat only have 20 or so electric guitars in each; have of them are cheapo squier strats...

Don't think I could've done better for the money (it's a 250 pound guitar and 100 pound amp, never mind the 50 squids worth of leads, straps, etc - cheap in Oman, but no freebies and no discounts. I'm pretty tired, but I'll piss around for half an hour before going to bed then up all to have some more in the morning...

    Cycling should be banned!!!

What's that amp, a Fender Champion..? Nice bit of kit and you got yourself a proper axe too
Next job is to lock up the trem (unless you wanna play surf music )
That's gonna be fokkin loud... you might want to think about buying a CS-3 compressor.
    Right on on Leftie

    ^thanks, mate.

The amp is a Mustang 1 V2 20w, it's a modelling amp and it's the proverbial dogs bolloks. Specs:

    - 24 onboard preset amp styles (8 styles with 3 modes each)
    57' Deluxe
    59' Bassman
    65' Twin Reverb
    British 60's
    British 80's (think Iron Maiden)
American 90's (this setting is AWESOME)
    Super-Sonic
    Metal 2000
    - 12 modulation effects (2 at a time can be used)
(Chorus, Tremelo, Flanger, Phaser, that kind of stuff).
    - 12 delay and reverb effects
    - chromatic tuner
    - comes with software for Fender fuse to download 1000s of presets.
    - unlimited spacefor presets with computer software
    - optional 1 button foot switch.

Does just about everything. Loads of functions, gonna take me ages to work out. Gets top reviews from all and sundry... I looked at the Cube and others, but they just weren't in the same league as this new Fender amp which is bloody cheap too.

Guitarwise, just went through 3 basic cords on different frets and very basic strumming patterns and it was: 1) pretty much in tune (I'll tune it tomorrow though an amp function); 2) - and this is a shocker - buzz free from my fat and clumsy fingers. So far so good, gonna give it about at least a couple of hours per day tomorrow and Saturday (the weekend here), and maybe a basic song could be in me sights already? Very nice neck, low comfortable action, my strumming hand fits comfortably. Haven't plugged it into the amp yet, so tomorrow could turn into an all dayer if the fingers hold up...

I think the trem is basic (i.e. not too good); I don't intend to go anywhere near it for a month or so - won't even put the arm in...

I bought a hand made PRS type guitar from Atlas Guitars in Bang Na a few years ago. Atlas use the best quality materials and it shows. It's by far the best guitar I own.

Just spent an hour or so checking them out - look really nice. An Ibanez RG with the beauty of a PRS quilted sunburst top would suit me perfectly - if my playing improves to justify it. Do you reckon they'd whack a nice one up for 25,000 baht? They look expensive...

I can have a go, Betsy.

Used to have a Jackson copy which looked similar to your Ibanez.

Prefer the drums though. They make more noise. And you can do stuff like this on them...
