A Northwest Airlines crew on the same flight as that targeted by an attempted terrorism attack sought have sought emergency assistance for a disruptive passenger who was taken into custody as the plane landed in Detroit.
Amid heightened global security concerns, the disturbance occurred on the same Northwest Flight 253 that was attacked by a terror suspect on Christmas Day.
On the flight, which arrived in Detroit from Amsterdam at 12.34 pm, "there was a verbally disruptive passenger, and out of an abundance of caution the flight crew requested law enforcement meet the aircraft," Susan Elliott, a spokeswoman for Delta, told AFP.
The flight with 257 passengers and 12 crew landed safely, Elliott said.
US President Barack Obama was notified about the latest security scare on a Detroit-bound airliner and requested a new security briefing from top aides, a spokesman said Sunday.
Obama "was notified shortly after 9:00 am Hawaiian time (1900 GMT) of the incident regarding an unruly passenger on the flight arriving in Detroit by NSC chief of staff Denis McDonough," White House spokesman Bill Burton said.
Burton issued the statement in Hawaii, where the vacationing Obama is monitoring the situation following Friday's attempted terror strike on a US-bound plane.
That Northwest Flight 253 -- traveling the same path from Amsterdam to Detroit as the Sunday flight -- was the target of an apparent terrorist attack by Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, whom US authorities charged with trying to blow up the plane.
CNN reported that one person was taken off the plane and into federal custody, citing an law enforcement officer saying that no device was found on the detained passenger.
TV images showed a Delta plane on the tarmac in a remote section of Detroit Metro Airport, surrounded by security vehicles, several buses and emergency response vehicles, and police with dogs.
Delta merged with Northwest last year.
US media cited government sources say the passenger barricaded himself in the bathroom for more than an hour, but his conduct has been attributed to a medical condition.

I normally close the door and object to people trying to open it when I have bladdy stomach complaints too!

Fookn idiots ! I hope this innocent man sues their racist asses off!
Fookin idiots they may be. Considering the recent attempt that failed (according to reports) due to a malfunctioning detonator, what would you have done in their place?

Still, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it. If he wasn't up to naughties this stinks of staged controversy, in which case no doubt he will consider following your advice to sue their 'racist' asses off.

They're not schmucks, someone else prepares the goodies for them as part of the package, which includes support and travel arrangements. We're talking about the 'terrorist masterminds' behind the operations, the ones that don't go on planes with destination Allah; iow, as a wild guess I'd suggest an airliner with an on board terrorist mastermind is safer from an Islamic terror attack than one without.

The goal of Islamic terror is not just to kill the infidel, but as you say to spread fear and cause us to freak out and continue to self-limit our freedoms. Fmm, that's working well.

    Good question.

It also makes sense to detonate a plane over water rather than land, as this causes more confusion with loss of evidence to the depths. Lockerbie gained infamy by accident, since the plane was supposed to have been blown up over the icy waters ahead.

Homeland security head: The security system worked

(AP) - WASHINGTON - Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says investigators did not have enough information to keep a terror suspect from boarding a flight bound for Detroit and that the system worked as it should have.

The father of the man accused of attempting to blow up the jetliner told U.S. officials in Nigeria he was concerned about his son's extreme religious views. However, Napolitano says there was no specific information to place Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab on a no-fly list.

Napolitano says that within 60 to 90 minutes of the incident all 120 flights that were in the air at time were contacted to make sure the attempted bombing did not extend beyond the flight to Detroit.

Napolitano appeared Sunday on ABC television's "This Week."

Homeland security head: The security system worked - AP - NOLA.com

She doesn't have the decency to admit that security measures become worthless the moment a terrorist slips through. Much of the world linking to the West have introduced a ban on liquids, toothpaste and shampoo on planes because someone tried to ignite a liquid bomb, and millions of passengers troll around airport security barefoot because a shoe bomb failed. What other insane measures will be introduced next, and which if any actually prevent a determined terrorist from boarding a plane with enough material to bring it down? Not one. Security works best when it is unpredictable, and worst when everyone knows what to expect.

So, sure "the system worked as it should have", since it includes Cunning Plan B which states that if a terrorist is not intercepted and worse, not identified, let's hope he fcuks up. In this respect it worked just fine and she ought to be promoted.

Terrorists have won bigtime, and a long time ago. Our leaders just haven't got around to admitting it.

I still don't understand why the authorities don't insist upon all airports having the new type of scanner. If people are worried that their rights are infringed, they han stay at home of get the bus.

Amsterdam has the new fully body scanners, the operator obviously wasn't paying attention or perhaps the thing really isn't that good.

    More information,..................

It is a six-inch long packet of the high explosive chemical called PETN, less than a half cup in volume, weighing about 80 grams.

A government test with 50 grams of PETN blew a hole in the side of an airliner. That was the amount in the bomb carried by the so-called shoe bomber Richard Reid over Christmas 2001.

The underpants bomb would have been one and a half times as powerful.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

looks like they wont work as the news reports show the explosives were sewn into the crotch of a smelly pair of underpants ,doubt if the scanners would find them.
so it looks like you will have to do a full strip off to board a plane in future.
right underneath the bumhole is where they hid them.
