Teakdoor Is **** Slow!!

I thought maybe it was me. But for the last several days TD has been ridiculously slow to load. Has something changed? New server?

I use Firefox and I can even nip over to TV, have a look around and come back to the TD page and it still hasn't loaded!

And I've been watching the World Cup streaming live TV from ESPN and ABC at about 420+ kbps, so there's nothing wrong with my ISP.

What's going on?

Seems fine to me. I must admit that there has been more glitches in the past few days but the loading speed seems the same.

The gallery was a bit tardy when I was uploading the nice schoolgirl pics at around 9.20 this evening.

Maybe Xzyte was buggering around with it again. Was Ajarn slow too (same server)?

No problems here.
I have been experiencing general iternet problems this last week but TD is generally quicker to load than most if not all sites

As for my loading problem, I'll keep an eye on it and see if it changes, but I'm not kidding, some pages were taking over two minutes to load so I nipped over to TV or did some Googling while I was waiting, and still it hadn't finished. It's seems OK at the moment though.

Is there a particular time when backups are done? And how long do they normally run? Anyone know?

Sometime after midnight, but that shouldn't affect your load times significantly. It's probably just a quirk of the wonerful Thai internet.

I've been experiencing extremely slow page load times for a couple of weeks at least.
The internet seems fine, but this site for some reason has been crawling both at home and in work, though we have the same ISP's.

DD, we have a problem! (Should that be "Houston"?)

Here's a graph of my access to TD around 1 pm today from Phuket:

Each dotted vertical line is 60 seconds apart
Blue = receiving data from Internet
Yellow = transmitting data to Internet
Green = simultaneous receiving and transmitting

The big blip at the beginning is when I started Firefox and it automatically requested updates to its extensions.

After that I logged into to the following pages at TD which took the following times to load:

My thread subscriptions page - 30s
Forum home - 91s
Members Only - 45s
"Numa Numa" thread - 91s
New Posts - 120+s (gave up waiting)

Then I clicked on another forum (guess who):
Forum home - 20s
General Topics - 12s
"Stupid Question" thread - 5s
Thailand Forum link - 11s
Forum Support - 7s
"Slow" thread - 6s

(The page load times are measured by the "Extended Status Bar" extension which shows the time at the bottom of the page).

You can see from the graph that most TD data rates are well below the others - the graph is set to 512 kbps on the vertical axis.

If you like, I can do other tests - e.g. go to other sites - and record the same data.

I get the same slow accesses since a couple of days back.
A traceroute of teakdoor.com shows a very slow router in Level 3 Communications network (tampa1.level3.net).

try pinging td, you will find it must be one of the hops slowing you down.

A couple of weeks ago the connection was rerouted thru Paris from Thailand.

Ping statistics for 207.150.190.18:
Packets: Sent = 40, Received = 40, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 291ms, Maximum = 329ms, Average = 294ms

No problem with the "ping" command - in fact, TD is comparable to most and faster than google. But the pages are still slow to load. I ran the ping command while I was waiting for this "Reply to thread" page to load, and got the results above.

So although I'm talking to TD using the "ping" command, TD is not giving me the data when I browse the forum. Does that make sense?

P.S. It took 78 sec. to preview this post. During that time I ran "ping" and got similar results as above.

I'm back to free dial-up at work and the pages are loading in between 'less than a second' to about 'ten seconds for a bad one'.

Well, it's pretty fast now - every page taking less than 10 secs. to load. But, then again, it is 4:39am in Thailand.

The ping times are about the same as before.

Marmite's bladdy umbrella pictures on the same page as login, if you ask me...

(My firefox wants to load the whole page before its password security thingy clicks in).
