It's crawling along now - 11:50 pm to midnight 6th July. Unbelievably slow. What's going on DD? I can go over to other sites read 3 or 4 pages and come back to the TD tab and it still hasn't loaded. You have definitely got a problem. I don't know what it is, and I'm quite willing to do any tests you can think of to help, but don't dismiss it as just me.

No. I've got something called VisualRoute. Is that what you mean? But my trial period has expired anyway.

If you can upload a copy, I'll give it a go.

Sometimes it is extraordinarily slow. For example, just now I clicked on the new posts button and also tried to open this thread. Both screens partially loaded but then just hung. As an experiment I loaded both Yahoo and CNN. Both of those sites loaded up quickly while the TD pages were still hung. So, I know it's not the International gateway.

Sometimes, hitting the stop button and then reload will result in the page loading properly and sometimes not.

I subscribe to a couple of other Forums that use this same software so it's probably not the code. For example this forum: Macosxhints always loads quickly and I never get the sort of half page stalls that I experience with TD.

BTW, the Macosxhints form has: Threads: 55,381, Posts: 305,715, Members: 42,946, so it's not exactly a low volume forum.

(I just tried to load the TD main page to compare the numbers and it took well over two minutes....)

    Just my two satang....

The server is up and running properly and I aint getting any package loss, generally the server load is about 5 percent of it's cpu, so we aint really hitting it hard, have you got "visual route"? can you run a check on your routing to the server?

I am the very last house that can have ADSL going south from Phrae.
Up until recently it was also the last house with electricity

I cannot get the full speed but 90 percent is just fine for me.

I got the best of both worlds

Nineteen hops. That's shite. The hang-up was between TT&T and the international gateway (CAT #8).

I've got Visual Route running OK. Exactly what information do you want from VR (and what "private" stuff should I mask out?)

Whenever I get the "partial load and hang" problem - as Buadhai describes it - I run VR but the result just don't look any different from times when it's fast, so you'd better be precise with what you want me/us to log.

I recently came to the conclusion that it was simply the internet slowing down somewhere while the bloody kids were playing their on-line games, but now I'm not so sure because the VR data didn't look any different between slow times and fast times.

PS. It hasn't been too bad for me for the last week or so.

Sometimes it's fine, other days I get the exact same problem as RDN and buadhai, partial loads or no loads at all.
    Right now, it's awful.

    We cross-posted.

I get very similar results. I guess you're on TT&T Maxnet too, Buadhai?

    But I did get 4% loss at hop 11 ("ge-1-6.r01.....") and 2% at hop 12 and 2% at hop 15 ("as-2-0.mp2....") and 2% at teakdoor.com.

I'm using VR set up with 50 pings per hop, 1024 packet size and ping timeout 10,000ms.

OK, I just hit the "New Posts" button on TD and got the hang. It stopped loading just after the main menu banner that his this stuff on it:

"Home User CP FAQ Members List"

(This is where it usually hangs, just above the Google Ads....)

While it was hung I load one of my pages which is hosted on a server in Texas. It loaded, thumbnails and all, while TC was still hung:

    Korat Slide Show

Same goes with any other US hosted page: CNN, Yahoo, LA Times. They all load lickety-split, without the quarter page hang that I get with TD.

So, I loaded one of my pages with Google Ads: Narita Layover Page.

And it also loads fast. No hang at the Google Ad banner.

I gotta assume that the hang-up happens when the TD page has to include the Google ad in the HTML code that the PHP code builds. Something wrong there.

Not an easy one to diagnose or fix....

Now I'm really pissed. I typed a big long response and it got lost.

The bottom line is that TD hangs where it has to integrate the Google Ad code with the HTML generated by the PHP code.

I tried loading one of my pages that includes Google Ads and it loads fast (while TD is still hung):

    Narita Layover Page

Also, this page full of thumbnails also loads very fast. No hang at all:

    Mike Newman's Slide Show

Don't worry, I emptied the browser cache before I loaded it.

I gotta assume that the quarter page hang is due to some strange interactions between the Google Ad code and the HTML generated by vBulletins PHP code. Not an easy one to fix.
