    He already said.

    Ivor Biggun
Don't remember. Had some Ivor Biggun singles in my youth. Ivor Biggun and the Red-nosed Burglars. He became a presenter on That's Life. Doc Cox. The Wankers song got into the top 40 sometime in the 70s because Johnny Rotten chose it for single of the week in NME. Of course, that was before our Henry passed and you didn't see so many darkies then.

I wouldn't have the knowledge to mess around with the code but I guess you would. So why are you dissing it, Mr. Expert?
There was no sarcasm implied. I asked you two questions to help clarify your post.

You said: "Let the code be open source."

I assumed you meant the source code for the forum software. If you didn't mean that, please correct me and tell me what you were actually referring to. If you did mean change the forum software to an open source forum software (like the SMF I mentioned), please tell us why you think that is a good idea for Teakdoor. (Maybe you could also tell us which one you would like to have here and why.)

    It is sarcastic, IMO.

This is what I mean by open source:
Open-source software (OSS) is computer software with its source code made available with a license in which the copyright holder provides the rights to study, change, and distribute the software to anyone and for any purpose. Open-source software may be developed in a collaborative public manner.
I looked up SMF and got this definition:
Simple Machines Forum software, or SMF software, is an open source, Internet forum, message-board program developed by Simple Machines. The name reflects the communities' initial goal of providing a program that could be operated by novice programmers and require minimal server resources.
That sounds good to me bc I consider myself to be a novice. But obviously, the code would have to be installed by a very senior programmer to make sure the code is desirable, according to TD's requirements, and clean.
“The Master said, At fifty, I knew what were the biddings of Heaven. At sixty, I heard them with docile ear. At seventy, I could follow the dictates of my own heart; for what I desired no longer overstepped the boundaries of right.”

I still don't see how you inferred any sarcasm in my two posts to you but let's move beyond that. What would be the benefit to you, I or the other members of changing the forum software to "open source"? How, in your opinion, would it improve Teakdoor? [I ask because it is not clear from any of your posts in this thread. No sarcasm implied or desired.]

I think it's a pretty good and improved forum now that marmite got chased out and the tough guy with little head went up to become pollution.

Was dismissed during the post-DD purge [as many decent mods were].

Probably acquired the same uneasy bitter feeling of extended disloyalty by the incoming admin.

    Departed and never returned.
    Still residing here, I believe.

Largely responsible for the post DD purging that dragged the forum into the gutter with TV.

A mini-hitler. It was embarrassing when TFP got locked out of his account and the BS that Twatyim put him through.....

    • Focus largely on Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore.
    • Get photo competitions going again.

    Some good points there ...

Good points or bad, it makes fuck all difference because, as has already been pointed out, the admin couldn't give a toss.

The slide into senescence has been clear for years and is almost certainly irreversible at this late stage. All that remains now is to make sure that the care assistant wipes the forum's arse once in a while and then, well, just wait for the inevitable.

You have inside knowledge? The way you lot are bitching would, if I was the owner, cause me to fcuk the forum off. Is it really worth the hassle?

No, but it's entirely obvious that she/he/they aren't interested. And I think the owner has, more or less, fucked it off. There's no maintenance now and no effort goes into sustaining the forum (and whether or not you liked him, DD put a huge effort into curating the place) - it's just a matter of paying the server fees, which are low and getting lower all the time. Does it matter, though? No, not especially. It's hardly keeping me up at night, but it's still a bit of a shame.

I cannot green you but that is one of the funnier posts you have written. And there are quite a few, IMNSFHO.

OK, so I apologize for inferring a judgement on you. I try not to do that to anybody (especially inferring a false one) so I hope you accept my apology. And let's move on.

exactly what I hope would happen if the source code for TD became available to all qualifed members is that we could play around with it (I personally do have some programming and Web development experience. If baldrick wanted to get involved...Jesus Christ) The code would be available for modification by any member (I really shouldn't have emphasized "qualified" but knowing what they are doing is important). Now, why would they want to do that? To install changes to the code so that some of the good suggestions on this thread, or others not thought of yet, could be implemented. Now I think there should be a quorum of all members (those with at least more than 100 posts) who vote on what the new change would be: up or down. Make sense?

Money talks, and bullshit walks... whoever pays for the servers, and owns the admin superuser password calls the tune.
Despite the attempted cessation forums, none of them have managed to accrue sufficient critical mass to drain TD of it's power... it's like the death star to ThaiVisa's Endor, and I've run out of metaphor, and need a poo now.

i don't know how other open source projects work, when it comes to security. I think everybody can download the code but there will be some kind of restrictions or supervision in place as far as uploading and installing anything.

Are you calling your question spam?

wjb, VBulletin isn't really "open source". People pay for a licence to use VBulletin software. See here:

Is vBulletin open source? - vBulletin Community Forum

However, changes can be made to the software using mods (modifications). See here:

    http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=198

The new repo system of gold stars/cabbages is such a modification (albeit an old one). I expect forum owners can also modify their own sites as they wish. It is up to the owner/s to take that responsibility and risk. Personally, I doubt there is anything needed by TD that isn't already available as an approved mod.
