I don't agree entirely, though I see merit in your suggestion.

I have a PhotoBucket account and used to hotlink directly from that but ... once I changed the name of an album or moved some images from one album to another and the hotlink was lost.

Photo uploading is prolonged and if you url a pic in from FB it turns into a small blue square a few months later, fook knows why but it ruins threads.

because facebook owns the photos that you post in its website and it does not want to allow other sites to use them

Easier said than done.
As most legitimate newbs tend to be intimidated by the rough going received here - have to have a reasonable thick skin to get on here.

Most don't survive - because of the general rough environment.

Obvious to see the number of "guest" viewing in any 24 hour period. It's staggering. Either they're not members nor want to be or members that browse more so than engaging on any regular basis.

Directing potential newbies from you tube with links in the comments also same with FB is a good way of generating traffic, trouble is most click off when they see the banner at the top of the page.

they probably consider it to be some kind of freak show, like a victorian circus sideshow, and are horrified by the levels of infantile idiocy and stupidity on display. one look is enough to convince most people that avoiding this community of snarling subnormals is the wisest course of action.

the access restrictions on doghouse and members are more to protect outsiders by keeping the freaks behind bars than to protect the freaks by keeping the outsiders out.

The Victorian Circus Sideshow obviously has an enduring appeal for the multitude of voyers attracted to the site.

A smart person goes to his (or her) Manager with a problem and often has an answer.

I originally went to Thai Visa to read about Visas, then stayed when I
wanted to read some Thai and World News in English.

Not, for a second should TD become a copy of TV ... but some basics of TV are worth emulating.

So, maybe TD could encourage the Members to contribute to that knowledge base.

For example, you have James running an excellent Rubber Tree thread in the Farming Forum ... maybe the senior members, who have a specialty interest or experience can contribute?
