This isn't a bad idea in some ways but it has flaws, first of all why the arbitrary limit of 5 years? Make it 5 months or 15 years, it's all the same because TD is kind of supposed to be a forum about construction and the like so advice from somebody with a good reputation and long history of contributions in building threads is easy to spot.

Under your plan anything posted by some clown like me who doesn't know one end of a trowel from the other would carry almost equal weight depending on when the counters were reset.

The rep system has been totally compromised. It was set up by DD to reward good threads and posts. Here is DD's rep.

He started the forum, posted until the cancer was too much. Started hundreds of threads over 7 plus years and he had this to show for it.

Building and travel were the keys to the board.

Now we have posters who only post for repo, not a care about content. Only the almighty green.

In 3 months of posting Loogie is now past DD. 3 months!!!

The whole dynamics of the board are bass ackward of what it was founded to be. I know he is not resting in peace.

Get rid of all the repo and simply go back to posting. Perhaps then the content would come back.

This will never happen as the new admin simply does not give a shit.
Sort of like an old car with no maintenance and just hope the thing keeps going for a little bit longer.

Is this board about content or who has the bigger cock?

And News. That was a major driver of forum traffic, particularly at times like the Ratchaprasong occupation/murders. A lot of people, me included, came for the Thai political news and discussions and then hung around to post on other threads but with the death of those parts of the board, as with I imagine a fair number of other forum members, it's now only habit that keeps me visiting; if I had stumbled on this forum for the first time today, there's not a fucking chance in hell that I would begin posting here

I'm just throwing this out there but why not combine the two? I'm sure Terry could rustle up a photo-thread or two on the topic when he gets back from his, ahem, 'fishing'.

The key element in positive change is a desire on the part of the owner to improve the forum.

    There is none.

crap - if this was really the case they would have the piss taken out of them - the posters that get the most repo are those who post travel threads and cooking threads and motoring threads

your petty feud with whoever may not be as sad as some of the others , but it is still sad

and as has been pointed out by others , the main problem we have on this forum is the countless petty feuds from a fair number of people who should stop for a personality check and wonder if they have been ingesting too many female hormones to become a bitchy katoey

I used to bait tweery on every post of his I came across , but one day before I hit the quick reply button I decided I was wasting my time and behaving like a little girl for no real reason except his posting grated on my sense of being an aussie - so I stopped , except for an every now and then stab which I try and keep in reasonable humour

genticles will never be off my shopping list as his replies are well worth reading for their underlying humour value and knowing one day he will slip and reply directly to me

smeggles just needs to be harassed until he finally just fcuks off

Hi! My name is Storekeeper and I'm a recovering repo addict.

For years I didn't give a fly&*% F*&^ about the repo system and then I started caring for some reason that I can't recall. Whatever caused it I made a conscious effort to try to get repo hits and move up the ladder. And with every goal reached a new goal was set.

And then recently it started to feel like some sort of ranking system and I decided to permanently opt out.

I like your posts , but I do not feel the need to green you often

I had my repo display turned off for a long time , but turned it on with the new cabbage system - now is probably the time to go back to the grey blob

Repo was anonymous in the beginning, with no censorship.

    Yep....
And the indifference and lack of interest began the week Eric passed.
It was quite blatant then as it is today.

I'm sorry to say this, as numerous others are feeling the same way.

I thought it was supposed to be currency also, when I first joined. Alas, it is what it is: to show everybody how popular you are. You'll not believe it, unless you've already seen it, but a particular poster, to remain unnamed, periodically posts the top 15 posters, by reputation, here: https://teakdoor.com/members-only/284...ml#post3258850 (Show us your Repo points and the comments)

A poster doesn't generate his/her own repo. Other posters send it - positive or negative.

It certainly isn't currency - I've been trying to trade points for a toaster oven for years.

So making repo a currency is an idea. I don't what it could buy. If you offered something like bitcoins there would be a huge influx of newbs.
