Thread: Low End Thai's

I think its fair to say that it takes a long time for a farang to come to this realization as we don't want to spoil the dream.

Its also taken me 20 years of coming and going to realize things ain't all good in the land of smiles.

Saying that I'm going to give it a fair go when I retire next year but I'm well glad I have experience under my belt and can possibly avoid the negative aspects.

I've seen similar many time but always brings a smile.

I disagree re corruption, Thailand will never change, corruption and material greed are part of the genetic programming.
20 yrs ago after settling here,I was of a similar view to your own. But all that's happened is that these unlovely traits have got worse.
There is seemingly more violence, corruption has deteriorated. and the attitude toward foreigners and even their fellow citizens has hardened as the standard of living has improved.
A decade or so ago, while it was normal for Thai drivers to be a little short in the skill department they were in the main reasonably tolerant, now even in Issarn Its fairly common to see road rage and open aggression between drivers.

Yours is a very fair statement. Who knows what the next 20 years will hold for Thailand. Hopefully this young generation will make a difference as the baby boomers did for the US. Of course like I said, not everything changed is for the good.

As for me, hell I may not even be here or live to see it unfold. For now I am JAFO and like it that way. Just wish they would get a Goddamn good beer over here. For christ sakes how hard can that be?
