Cheers Terry, It was one of the most rewarding things I have done. Get really attached to the little buggers though so leaving at the end of the year is hard. I would have stayed for longer but had to get back to BKK for work.

If I ever find myself in a situation where I can take a year or 2 out again I'd go back without hesitation.

Yep very true that Dick and is usually the way in third world countries.

The high So's have no compassion for the unfortunates which really shows how foked up they are but westerners can usually distinguish between a person who is down on his luck and one who is just a waste of space.

Don't be ridiculous. It's not as if Thais are forced to display photos in their houses in prominent positions, see and pay for at every main intersection pictures and propagandaish slogans on large advertising hoardings and be forced to watch TV programs which are being shown simultaneously every evening during peak viewing times. And, if they ever want to object, are carted off to jail guilty before trial until they can show they are innocent of a crime that requires ambiguous unsubstantiated evidence to convict them. People love to put tags or labels on people as it allows them to justify in their minds they are better then the people they just put down.

We do this in the US on a regular basis. It is done based on your level of education, what college you went to, the neighborhood you live in, the car you drive, the house you own. The list goes on and on.

There are high & low class people in every wealth bracket, but in Thailand most of the high class people I have met are [sic] 'low end'.
Clearly the OP has little idea how to deal with them, and absolutely none how to get the best from them.
Which, from my observation, is probably no different in the country he originates from.
