In the early 80's when I had a bistro in West London a salesman came in with a 'New' bottle cork remover and tried to sell us some .
Cant remember the name - something like 'Corkette' I think .
It was super smooth looking gadget with a sort of hypodermic needle at one end and a screw holder for a 'Sparklet ' CO2 cartridge in the other .
You stuck the needle through the cork and pressed the button - "Hey Presto" the cork slid out easily.
We tried it on a couple of normal bottles of red and white and consumed the contents .
Then Sarah - the barmaid said "try it on this one" she liked rose and was feeling left out of the fun .
Matheus Rose appeared and the needle was inserted .
Button pressed
KERFUCKINBANG !!
Glass and booze everywhere !
It would appear that a cylindrical bottle can absorb the extra pressure from the CO2 but a flask type bottle could not !
Did not buy !
Hammer, screwdriver and a coffee filter is the way to go if you are desperate !

Wallalai, I know that switzerland has some of the best wines in the world but not a lot of them have corks anymore. Because of the worry that the corks may be yucky. Or they have those orrible plastic corks...
And that picture that you posted on the other thread is not Sion!!
Im going to Sierre next week to look after a friend who is terminally ill with cancer.
You'll also need a Soi Cowboy lass to open the Singha Soda bottle if you want a spritzer.Originally Posted by Butterfly
Top quality cork is used for premium wines, at least in Valais. It's the mediocre quality and cheap corks who ruined the ordinary wines. I don't find the plastic corks that bad, very hermetic and tastefree so the content is not spoiled.
About the pic, do you mean the link in the Vancouver thread ? It was not intended to show a pic of Sion (BTW my hometown is Martigny at 27 km distance) but to show how many ski resorts could be able to host alpine skiing competitions.
That fascinated me to the point of wanting to try it, but I only have a bottle of wine with a screw top at home. Maybe I'll pick one up over the weekend.
In the meantime, I nominate Fresh Prince to do a test on this theory and video/post the results!
If a drunken Frenchman can do it, I am sure FP can![]()
