Drive to phuket

Anyone know the best road and quickest once you get down south, there seems to be 2 routes, one by ranong and the other surit thani I think it is, the pier to Samui place.

Which is quicker, better etc ?

Just askin the best road, there is 2....on the map they look equal distance roughly.....soz just wonderin as I NEVER DONED it before

Lead a sheltered life then Nawty, I done it maybe 30 times, I prefer the Ranong route,if only because it affords great beaches and views of the Andaman if you duck off the main road and its a little less tedious than the other which is a bit shorter time wise.
But my info is a bit out of date as I haven't done it for 4 yrs now.

what are you going to do on the way? its, or used to be a 12 hr drive at reasonable speed, 2 days at sedate (or Nawty) speed. have done it in 8 hrs on a MC.

The Green Resort - about Km 276 from Phuket on the Ranong road was good when I stopped there last year.
