The harvest is in. This was taken yesterday at the fields that the family farm. I was there to help move it back to the house so it wouldn't get stolen.

After the landlord and thresher chaps had taken their cut, the family had about 3.5 tonnes from 25 rai.

I don't know. They'll keep it all for themselves and only sell the surplus when next year's harvest is in. I'm not sure they have any to sell from last year's harvest.

We get free rice too, so the Midget is happy. The stuff you buy in Tesco is 2 or 3 years old from what I've been told.

    I just asked the Midget.

Normal rice is about 18 baht a kilo (unpolished), but she doesn't know about the sticky rice.

Why don't you go to a warehouse and buy high grade Thai rice at half the price you pay now ?

Thanks for the post. Makes me feel pretty good to know we did pretty well this year with 2 ton of sticky rice on 6 rai of land. Our planting was not done traditional Thai with planting and then transplanting. Rather we just hand seeded and let it grow. We did fertilizer a couple times during the growing season.

I have been told that what I lugged back wasn't from the entire farm, as the normal rice had already been done. I think the landowners take between 25 & 40% of the harvest. I'll try to get proper figures at some point.
