THE Royal embroiled in the “sex and drugs” blackmail case is on the brink of going public, The Sun can reveal.

Top Buckingham Palace aides have raised fears about the damage being done to the Royal Family as a whole by lurid speculation over the person’s identity.

As the scandal rages on, senior sources claim it is increasingly likely the person at the heart of the case will waive their anonymity.

At present a court order prevents anyone identifying the royal involved in the UK – although sources have stressed the person is not a so-called “senior” member of the family.

But last night the person was sensationally named on US television, as well as in foreign Press and internet chatrooms – making it even more likely the royal will come forward.

Scots-born socialite Ian Strachan, 30, and 40-year-old Sean McGuigan are on remand in jail accused of hatching the blackmail plot.

They are said to have demanded £50,000 not to release tapes in which an aide allegedly claimed the Royal performed a sex act on him.

There are also alleged to be shots of a Harrods charge card being used to chop lines of cocaine on a coffee table.

The drug was then snorted by the royal assistant.

The two men are due to appear at the Old Bailey on December 20 – and due to the nature of the case, a judge has already granted anonymity to the Royal involved and any other wit-nesses in the case.

It is understood that the Royal is taking legal advice to find out whether there is the option of waiving this right to deflect bad headlines away from the rest of the family.

Who is the British royal family member at the center of the sex and cocaine scandal? It's not Charles, Edward, or even Harry but Viscount David Linley, son of the late Princess Margaret, twelfth in line to the throne, sources tell Radar.

His story is blowingup the British papers today, but British law prohibits any of them from naming the hard-partying royal.

As the tale goes, two men demanded £50,000 from 45-year-old Linley in return for footage allegedly showing a royal aide talking of gay sex with him. The aide is also allegedly seen on a video tape taking cocaine from an envelope embossed with Linley's name.

I don't think that is true. The case was held "in camera" so that people could not know the details of the charges against the alleged blackmailers.

But there has been no prohibition of naming any names

Pointless protecting an identity that the rest of the world already knows, but I guess Brit judges have to earn their keep too.

Viscount Linley, son of the late Princess Margaret, has been named as the royal at the centre of a sex and drug extortion scandal in Britain.
The 45-year-old, who couldn't be named in Britain because of court restrictions, was outed on US television.
Two Britons, Ian Strachan, 30, and Sean McCuigan, 40, are being held in two London jails on charges of attempting to extort over $120,000 from the Queen's nephew.
The men allegedly claimed they had a video of a royal aide performing oral sex on the royal.
Britain's Sunday Times said the men also claimed the footage showed the royal aide snorting cocaine from an envelope allegedly supplied by the royal.
Strachan, from the London suburb of Chelsea, is a property developer and socialite originally from Aberdeen in Scotland.
McGuigan, 40, lives in nearby Battersea. His occupation was not revealed.
The duo are set to apply for bail later this week with a court appearance in the Old Bailey scheduled for December.
The scam was exposed when a detective, posing as a royal aide, met the two men in a London hotel on September 11 and was shown the video.

The men were arrested immediately afterwards, the Sunday Times said.
Buckingham Palace has declined to comment other than to say it was a police matter.
It's the first time a member of the royal family has been blackmailed in more than a century.

British police have questioned Prince Harry over the shooting of two protected birds of prey.
Associated Press reports that two hen harriers, which are classified as 'globally threatened', were shot on the edge a royal estate in Norfolk when Harry and a friend were in the area.
Buckingham Palace said that police asked the pair about the incident at Sandringham House, about 175km north of London, but neither knew anything about the shooting of the rare birds
