Doesn't every generation think that they had the good stuff and latter generations will never experience the same kind of high..? Could it just be you're further from the source and also no longer privvy to the machinations of teenage counter culture..? I think so... The only generation that could truly say that what they had was better would be the acid heads of the late 60's.. but then LSD doesn't have varieties, only quantity... liquid LSD is still available. Perhaps peak freaks are just simply the minority these days, the kids prefer talcum powder cut with cocaine.
As for not going out on acid... as a couple of other posters have said, it was always best to be active and a skinful of booze beforehand most often helped as well as a cocktail of other substances to keep the balance right along the way... not going out on acid..? The clubs and gigs in London would have been empty in the late 80's and early 90's if that was the case and as for the festivals...
..well I was just a casual observer of these events course![]()
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"
Or.....something more natural for those purists amongst us.
Psilocybin is the place to be.
Be careful - ya never know what you're gonna get.

The TeakDoor of Perception...
The resultant laughter from psylocybin is not a bad thing, either
^^^^^^
Would have though the clubs in late 80 and 90s were more Ecstasy driven, despite the term Acid house being used for the music, isn't it a different drug ? more like amphetamine - but I'm probably wrong.
love this Tom Wolfe book on the 1960s hippy and acid time.
Great read, but I don't think I'd last 5 mins on their physical bus , I hate 'leaders' and Neal Cassady 'from' On the road driving and maniacal taking , non stop, would done my head in...
Anyone else here read it ?

They say if you remember the '60s, you weren't there. But, fortunately, Tom Wolfe was there, notebook in hand, politely declining LSD while Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters fomented revolution, turning America on to a dangerously playful way of thinking as their Day-Glo conveyance, Further, made the most influential bus ride since Rosa Parks's.
good review of it on amazon too
In terms of unadulterated reading enjoyment, however, this book is still my favorite. He captures the era perfectly. This was the period in the mid-sixties when the hippie philosophy and lifestyle was still genuine, before it had become commercially exploited by the mass media, before Manson and Altamont and the seeds of evil. It was an uncorrupted, pure, joyous movement and moment. Owsley was the bay area chemist who produced hits of Sandoz-quality acid that sent the children out dancing blissfully through the night and into the purple dawn. It truly looked like a brave new world. If you are young and can't understand why former hippies wax nostalgic about it, it's primarily (at least to me) because that tiny era of innocence can never be recreated.
Quite a review, indeed...
Damn Hippies and their long-lasting influence....
I can't imagine going to a club when the psychedelic stairs are undulating and the walls 15 shades and panes of glass.
Does modern acid create hallucinations?
Perhaps people are dropping quarters and halves.
Yes but not so much. Mushooms are a far better trip these days. Maybe a noob will trip but it is not the same.Originally Posted by Cujo

Heheh
Ecstacy was definitely the drug of choice, but there was a lot of good LSD about in the 80's well before Ecstacy came on the scene.. once the dance scene took off LSD was a very common trade. E's a euphoric, Acid a hallucinogenic... they work very well together.
LSD is LSD.. only the quantity will make a variation.
Better baked one and a half times over than 3/4 the way under.
Apparently...![]()
I disagree, both LSD and Mushrooms are very difficult to quantify as the effect is dependent on the users perception. Mushrooms are very unpredictable and they run much deeper in the mind than Acid, making them far more likely to put you in the nuthouse if you over do it... and not all mushies are the same.
However, the 'philosophers stone' is most conducive to a pleasant trip to the far side should you ever get the opportunity.
Tripping is all about timing and the environment you do it in...

Bill Hicks was heckled once and asked why he gave up drugs.
He replied "once you been taken aboard an alien spaceship and shown the beauty of other civilizations, it's pretty hard to top"![]()
On the subject of Bill Hicks, and kinda back on topic, he said that mushrooms (growing on cow pats) were the springboard for man's imagination and eventual journey to the moon.
Where do you think the terms 'good shit' and 'holy cow' come from.?![]()
Nigel was a good shit, innit?...
No need for LSD if you want a trip. watch this film..
Although chemicals might enhance it![]()
you might need acid and 10 pints to enjoy that youtube ,its one hour 35 mins of a screenshot of the studio
^
Hey Blue,
last year back in Perth I had 8 pints with my Welsh mate.
I recon I stared in that movie.![]()
I'm going to download it and watch it
I used to have the trippy book as a child.
Though this internet multitasking malarkey has ruined my concentration: I'll have watch it in chunks like a restless 8 year old
^ You are the poster child of someone who should never use hallucinogenics.
I wonder how many here have actually gone way out there on the real thing; Ayahuasca?
I suspect not many.
During the course of my travels on the spirit molecule, I became aware that I didn't need to take the medicine any more.
I was prepared for the rest of the journey.
I took some liquid LSD since the Ayahuasca and that was fun, but nothing as mind bending as the Ayahuasca rocket ride.
Quite amusing to read some comments here in relation to the cultural application of hallucinogenic drug consumption, especially the bogus mystical crap I had all but forgotten. Ken Kesey's charabanc trip was simply an exercise in maintaining function whilst normal consciousness was altered - in the end such a state begets its own behavioural norms including language which excludes everyone else except the cognoscenti.
I seem to recall that it was a celebration of the "nowness " of life which ordinary folk could not appreciate. Of course, Wordsworth commented on the phenomenon in his poetry and I do believe I once attempted to posit the proposition that dropping a tab was the only way to fully appreciate Nietzsche, but with mixed results.
I think the medical explanation for it all resolved to a mechanism where chemical inhibitors slowed down the level of sensory information to a degree that did not overwhelm the brain. Acid simply took off the handbrake and the brain then had to cope with the new environment. Watching a passing swallow pirouette in perfect synchronisation to Jimi Hendrix's Castles made of Sand leaving spangly purple trails in a darkening sky as sunset approached was one particular effect of note.
