hook, line and sinker again bob!

I'm quite aware that SA is ranked #2 . The same south africa who have been australian bunnies for years (thinks 2009 and mitch breaking smith's fingers 3 times), and the same SA who SL just beat on home soil by 280'ish runs ....

we beat them 1-0 in a 3 test series not long ago .....you know, that SA

    No way Dave.

    We have decent bowlers now.

The last couple of ashes we did not.

next time around will be different.

we have had an influx of very good quicks lately, so you guys will actually have to play against something a little more than bollinger or johnson pies.

News for the Sydney test: Harris will bowl for Australia. The indians will not like the sound of a harris/pattinson opening bowling combination at all...

    Harris called-up for SCG

    30 December 2011 | by Sportal

Fast bowler Ryan Harris has been included in Australia's 12-man squad for next week's second Test against India, starting at the SCG on January 3.

Harris has been recalled after missing the recent New Zealand series as well as Australia's 122-run thrashing of the Indians in Melbourne with a hip injury.
The Queensland quick is the only addition to the squad, with Mitchell Starc and Daniel Christian both left out.
Opener Ed Cowan keeps his spot at the top of the order after an impressive debut with Shane Watson still battling injury, while veterans Ricky Ponting and Mike Hussey futures look assured after both scored half centuries at the MCG.
Harris's inclusion gives further credence to the thought Australia are considering playing four quicks for the second Test, with off-spinner Nathan Lyon to carry the drinks.
The Indians struggled to deal with the Aussies pace barrage in Melbourne, especially James Pattinson who won his second man-of-the-match award in three Tests by intimidating the tourists top order.
If Harris was to play, it seems highly unlikely he would replace either Pattinson, Ben Hilfenhaus or Peter Siddle meaning Australia would go into the match without a recognised spinner.
"It all starts again on 3 January and we'll go into the game with confidence and momentum," National Selector John Inverarity said.
"Ryan has had carefully monitored preparation, which has gone to plan."
"Mitchell Starc and Daniel Christian, who were both in squad for the First Test have been omitted but remain very much in our thinking."
All-rounder Watson wasn't considered for the match as he continues his rehabilitation from a calf injury.
"Shane has not fully recovered from his right calf injury and is therefore not available for the Sydney Test," Australian Physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said.
"He will continue his rehabilitation and hopefully be available for one of the remaining Test matches."
The Australian squad will assemble in Sydney on Saturday to prepare for the start of the Test on Tuesday.
The Australian squad: Michael Clarke (capt), Brad Haddin, Ed Cowan, Ryan Harris, Ben Hilfenhaus, Mike Hussey, Nathan Lyon, Shaun Marsh, James Pattinson, Ricky Ponting, Peter Siddle, David Warner (12th man to be named).

    Yeah....we believe you.....

and how recently did you beat SA 1-0?

Not the last series against them........ or the one before that, the one before that you did win 2-1, but a recent 1-0 win.....???

    Another made up fact..........

^ok, i'm not a stats guru like you bob. so what. so we drew with the saffers, but we didn't lose ......we should have won, except for 'that' collapse.

read the arcticles on australia versus SA and SL, and you can hardly say that any team is visibly superior to the otter..

my point being, there is no real 'champion' in world cricket at this present point of time. England has a poor record in the short formats, and has faced a lot of teams in a rebuilding stage, not just including australia.

i have a feeling australia will be a more settled team, the next time we meet the poms, and with our new bowling attack, will be a different side and finally over the rebuilding period..

I think that's a problem with indian cricket especially.

These guys get paid squillions to play in the IPL, and are quite happy to have that extra chappatti, than gain the fitness required for test cricket.

There are quite a few overweight Indian players, who make too much money, and enjoy being fat more than playing test cricket for their counrty (this is not just an Indian thing though)

one stat that stands out in the SL v Aus link is..

Australia's top batsmen in the subcontinent (minimum 1000 runs scored)
    Batsman Matches Runs Average 100/50 Michael Hussey 11 1198 63.05 4/5 Allan Border 22 1799 54.51 6/8 Matthew Hayden 19 1663 50.39 4/8 Mark Taylor 13 1020 48.57 2/3 Ricky Ponting 28 1889 41.97 5/10

Pretty impressive sub-continent record in the sub continent for hussey - compared to some very good players of the past.

the australian 'tall poppy syndrome' have been boisterous in the media for the axing of hussey recently (before his last innings) but it wasn't that long ago he was in great form while on tour. i saw a recent interview of him, where he said that he does not read newspapers or media reports on himself, and you can't blame him...

Quite possibly end up as Bradman did with a 99.9 test batting average and 1 short of his hundredth test hundred.

    Is this Tendulka's last tour?

    India all-out for 191.

Now lets see if the Aussie batsmen can back up their bowlers.

Clarke gets his double century, Ponting finally gets a ton and the Aussies 215 in front with 6 wickets remaining.

I have suddenly regained a lot of confidence because of what seems like a revived bowling attack with some new fresh faces who look like they have the goods.

I stated some time ago it wouldn't be hard to turn this team around, the talent was there, just needed a better selection policy and maybe a bit of new blood in the bowling department. The cry was that there was none, but the truth is there always is, it's just finding the ones who can perform on the big stage.

And they will get stronger upon the return of Shane Watson.

The top batting order remains fragile and I think the English attack will have no problems with them unless they can achieve some reliability.

Certainly not the finished article, but a couple more tests like this to get the confidence going will do wonders....

The top is new to Test cricket....give them time....
