Sorry glory hunter, Cricket isn't my sport so that measure is irrelevant and doesn't show your absence when your team are getting your arses kicked, something that brings me in like a bee to honey.

Pak making a fist of it after being 69 for 4 are 280 for 8 with old boy Shah scoring a century - didn't see that coming yesterday.

Agreed NPT ... the Pakies have done a great job.

Then, the Aussies ENFORCED the follow-on ... can't remember the last time Australian (or anyone I've watched) have done that.

Maybe one eye on the weather Radar?

Plus, a near new swinging Pink Ball under lights after the Dinner break.

Don't be silly, as an Englishman I am obliged to

    - Mock the the misfortune of the convicts at any opportunity
    - Praise England for winning trophies
    - Bemoan the England team's bad luck against obviously inferior opposition

It's in our social contract don't you know.

I remember like yesterday when I went up to bat against Benjamin Liston, a big kid in my class in elementary school . . . closed my eyes and whacked the crap out of the ball . . . off the best pitcher in the Grosse Pointe little league. Lost interest after that - it simply couldn't get any better
Oh, the hit was a home run over the right field fence . . . and Ben later on became the district attorney for the area, so I guess he got over that

My parents made me play the game when they were posted to the US . . . never really forgave them for that. Now, ice (and street) hockey - much better

The Land of the Long White Cloud next swim across the ditch and take on the men from the Wide Brown Land in a 3 test series.

From memory, one Test in Perth, the obligatory MCG Boxing Day Test and a New Years Test in Sydney.

Australia vs New Zealand starting now.

In Perth, 40C predicted for the first 4 days.

    Day night Test.

Aussies won the toss and will bat.

Looks like an empty Stadium ... maybe more spectators will come after work and as it cools down

    ---

EDIT ... 1st over bowled. The second delivery I swear swung the better part of 30 cms

A clever bowling change from Kiwi captain Kane Williamson has brought about the first wicket of the series.
Joe Burns was dismissed for nine in Colin de Grandhomme's first over, when the tall quick got the Kookaburra to straighten and crash into Burns' front pad.
Burns lost his balance and stumbled forward after being struck in front well below the knee roll.
The review wasn't used by Australia, and…#AUSvNZ pic.twitter.com/hJbCHmWr6z

After a discussion with David Warner, Burns walked without reviewing the decision, however, replays showed the ball would have drifted down leg side and was going on to miss the stumps completely.
Burns fell for nine, to leave Australia 1/40
Warner and Southee exchanged heated words after Southee threw the ball and hit Burns.

Smith has hinted that he wants the captaincy back once the ban on leadership roles is over in a few months. Personally, I dont think he was a very good captain when he was in the role. His tactical nous was average at best, and he had a habit of letting his emotions get the better of him as he spat his dummie out.

Vaughan recently suggested that Labuschagne would be a good canditate for the job. He was a brilliant find for Australia during the ashes when he became the first substitute batsman in test cricket after Smith retired hurt. He has quickly become one of our best batsman and has shown a good maturity for a 25 year old, as well as having a good fighting spirit. I remember he was also hit by a bouncer from Archer in his first innings for Australia, and he shook it off and made nothing of it.

Let Smith concentrate on making runs, and groom one of our younger players. There has been talk of Cummins being captain, but I just dont see how a fast bowler could take on the job, given the fact that pace bowlers are so injury prone or easily worn out. Paine is 35 and his career is on the downward turn - I think Vaughan was talking a lot of sense in suggesting Labuschagne is the man for the job..

Warner out for 43 caught and bowled Wagner.

Smith and Labuschagne now at the crease - Australia could be in trouble if one of these guys gets out soon.

Players have left the ground for the tea break. Scorching hot weather will have made them thirsty.

Good session of cricket - NZ will be sniffing for another wicket after the break.

Australia will be able to handle the hot weather much better than the kiwis - could be a deciding factor this series ..

Labuschagne gets another 50. In his last 10 innings he averages 83 and has the best test average in the world.
