I gave the kids a choice after helping me tidy the garden today.

Korat Chef honey ham with mash, cauliflower and cheese sauce... and peas.

I don't really understand ham as a dinner ingredient. But that does look like decent ham. Maybe with some chips it'd be right.

I am very fond of a good cauliflower and cheese sauce. Took me right back. Have not had it in years.

I usually do a 7 portion pot of cheese sauce once or twice a year, but I usually have it with broccoli. Cauliflower works too though, although I did not realise it cooks much faster than broccoli so I over-steamed it the first time.


Finally finished my 2025 Covid broth after 28 bowls so I got some carrots to accompany a portion of Senorita's mystery frozen Lamb chop stew from the oldies kitchen

It is very tasty in some kind of rosemary sauce.

Had some chicken breast and some frozen rice and peas so it was Tikka Masala jar sauce instant lazy curry night.

Here you go a beef/pork cottage pie fusion!

500g of minced pork
500g of minced beef
gravy
Tomato Puree
Pepper
2Kg of Maris Piper potatoes
Green beens finely chopped
1 Onion

With some beetroot on the side..

So, still not very brown.

Surprising, when so much of your food is incinerated.

And…beetroot.

Portions of peas and sprouts would have transformed that meal. Beetroot has no place and should be reserved for cattle feed.


The daughter leaves home in less than two weeks, so is getting spoilt with all her favourites at the moment.

This week I made up a load of shortcrust pastry and Tuesday it was quiche.



I bet she won't get this for dinner at her fancy new school.



Yesterday was steak and kidney pie day... but we're having that tonight because she wanted 'mac and cheese' last night.



Mac and cheese is outside of my comfort zone and I don't believe it existed in the 70s. But, one of our family meals back then was eggs in a cheese sauce, this in the days before cholesterol became unfashionable.

How difficult could it be?

is 2 weeks time not a little early to bring out your 4 recipe repertoire of...
Quiche and peas
Frozen lamb shank and peas
Ham and peas
Battered pond fish and peas
?

^ That last question mark is obviously tonight's steak and kidney pie with mash and peas.

Anyway, she's away on camp for a couple of days which takes the pressure off but admittedly next week could be a problem.
