Today was a Beer can chicken for dinner.

Almost done, take aluminum foil off to crispy up the skin.

All done and Yep there are 2 chicken feet in the bottom, my wife loves those things.

excellent work gentlemen! That turkey looks great Mendip.

Oddly enough, I've never done a beer can chicken myself.

^ Yeah, I thought that was a bit low.

I guess it was Tony Blackburn?

Perhaps he was inspired by your gravy.

Yesterday we had our Christmas dinner at lunch time so I'm not sure of this is the correct thread or not?

But anyway, a small snapshot into a Christmas in Korat...

I'm big into pre-preparing these days and all this was done on Christmas Eve.

Prepared veg and crumble made easy work of it on Christmas Day. Makro had fresh sprouts in for Christmas and I made the most of it.

The miniature turkey just fit into the convection oven. The daughter asked me whether I'd be cooking the bird upside-down again this year... I must cook around 200 near-perfect meals a year, make one mistake and that's what she remembers. Bloody kids.

I took the foil off for the last 20 minutes to brown things up a bit.

And had to borrow the gardener's convection oven for the veg... after a damn good clean and sterilisation.

While I was cooking, the wife, in a rare act of thoughtfulness, started feeding glasses of this weird strawberry-flavoured Japanese wine and I must admit I was a bit of a mess by the time Christmas lunch was ready.

I was on the normal Mont Clair red wine by this stage and the gardener had brought along his own Ya Dong in one of the daughter's old school water bottles. I'd been wondering where they've been disappearing to. He had the choice of beer, wine or whisky but genuinely seems to prefer the Ya Dong.

    Yours truly in action.

It was only when posting this picture that I realised I didn't get a bacon roll... and I was the one who cooked the bloody meal as well.

We had no Cranberry Sauce but I found a few tubs of 'Tyttebaer' that must have found their way back to Korat from my Norwegian work boat. They seemed to do the job.

Before getting stuck in, the pre-prepared apple and forest berry crumble went into the convection oven.

    Around 45 minutes later...

The crumble was a bit watery and the apple was a bit hard. Next year I'll give it an extra 30 minutes. The custard was perfect.

And that was it, really. You know when the early Japanese strawberry wine has really taken it;s toll when you wake up in the morning with a load of selfies on your phone that you have absolutely no recollection about.

God knows what went on, but Lola isn't even allowed in the bedroom any more. I haven't said anything about it but the wife and daughter have been giving me very strange looks today.

Splendid behaviour mendy impressive stuff. Green owed

^ That looks great, I think that T-bone is my favourite steak but I've never tried it with Tartar sauce before.

There was something missing with my pork chop last night... yes, no bladdy daughter! She's gone snorkelling in Rayong with a school mate in preference to watching her dad go fishing with the dogs, would ya believe...

The wife is also away, gone searching for the missing link amongst her family in the depths of Isaan. Before she left, she prepared a bowl of vegetables for me to boil up. I taught her about cutting a cross into the base of sprouts many years ago and I would have to say that it's one of the few habits that has persevered through many years of marriage.

I've been surprised at how quickly I've regressed with having the house to meself with no responsibilities for a couple of days. I've just been drinking beer and cheap wine for a couple of days. Thankfully the daughter returns tomorrow to keep me on the straight and narrow.

^ OK, so disregarding his vacant expression, V-neck T-shirt and Khaki troosers, I'll take that as a compliment!

I had a nice quiet NYE in with the daughter and cooked up steak and chips, with my last portion of peas of the year.

We had one gate crasher... well, in fact seven gate crashers as the dogs were so scared of the fireworks they all barged into the house.

I went to bed around 9pm and the daughter woke me up at 11:55pm to see in the new year, after which I didn't get back to sleep. My sleep is awful these days.

Dinner yesterday evening was at a local steakhouse.

started with bone marrow and squid in a lemon butter.

    Dinner-img_2632-jpeg

    Dinner-img_2631-jpeg

Then T-bones and Bone in Ribeyes with chips and some blue cheese sauce. The green stuff is creamed spinach.
