    ^ Very nice, BC.

Last night I continued my daughter's education with an English curry. She's a blank slate over here and readily accepted that in England you always get a free pint while waiting for your takeaway to cook.

Chicken tikka masala for the daughter's introduction (what else?) and a lamb rogan josh for me.

    She demolished it.

I acquired one on the way over a few years ago. As per your geological hammer advice, I keep it at my mum's house!

Nice Mendy nice. I am with my daughter also, we shared our curry's but her intro was indeed the timeless chicken tikka. Glad to hear she enjoyed it, most Thai's love Indian food.

I like the fact you had a Kingfisher whilst you waited. Cider goes amazingly well in Indian food to my surprise. Whilst your here, look out for the cans of Scrumpy Jack they now do.

I had a(nother) curry last night too. Lamb, fish and daal from a Nepali place.

    Very nice it was too.

That is not what many farang accompanied by Thai diners report.

My wife loves Indian food though. I proposed in an Indian restaurant.

Every Thai woman I've ever known would never dream of eating Indian food. "Men maak" etc. They loathe it.

Perhaps a couple of Thai men would give it a go from time to time, but it's still not popular in my experience.

up until they try it, my Mrs likes it. Looking at the curries on this page they don't look too clever, lots of food colouring - usually a bad sign.

My gf won't set foot in an Indian restaurant. Simple prejudice. She doesn't like it because she hasn't tried it.
Miss Shanghai is the same. Insists they are 'dirty'.
The solution might be to find an Indian gf next.

^^ I once told the wife that I wished she was Indian instead of Thai, as I much prefer Indian food.

    That was a mistake.

Maybe most Thais raised in Birmingham until the age of 40. Certainly not most Thais in Thailand.

I didn't really think it through to be honest but I was surprised she reacted so badly. She loves Indian food as well.

I've mostly stopped going to restaurants - apart from a couple that I know Indians/Bangladeshis/Pakistanis etc go in - and instead go to the Pakistani cafes dotted around town. Rice and 3 with a chapati once or twice throughout the week at lunchtime and they have a nehari special on Sundays if I'm in the city. They don't look much from the outside, but if my mates Imran and Javed are eating there then it'll do for me! Every big city in the UK has them and they're just so much better than most of the restaurants. I think they're known as chaat houses.

This is my favourite and the main man is a big United fan, so winner winner chicken karahi dinner!

    Keema, dhal, spinach and potatoes.

I was in Whitechapel in London recently so met a mate and went to Tayyabs. A bit more upmarket than the ones I'm used to.

    The lamb chops. Ridiculously good.

There are so many mediocre "Indian" restaurants that it's hard to find a good one. You'll rarely get a bad meal at these Pakistani cafes though. If you're into food from the sub-continent, these are the real deal.

That's it. Prejudice. I was in a place in Hong Kong once and there were girls walking past holding their nose.

My wife was initially against it but soon came round to the way of curry.
    and a regular.

my daughter was very against the idea also, but she has now come around to her butter chicken starter set

All it needs is for them to try it, isn't it?

Like I've always said, you can't beat a bit of traditional British curry!

    those look very good.
literally just come back from my local (nepali place next to ABAC RAm called Mountain Kitchen) cheap as chips, very good, but don't go hungry as they take forever, its just an old couple who run it, But those chops i could do now.

that place in Manchester; looks handy for Afflecks, but your getting your steps in to canal street!

Afflecks is indeed just around the corner mate. There are a couple more that I go in over the road from Kabana (Yadgar and Al Faisal) and I'm actually working around the corner from Canal Street!

This Nepali place I was in last night is getting great reviews and is one of a handful of restaurants that I would say are really good. I'll have to try that place you're going to when I'm next in Bkk cos my old favourite place closed down and the other one I like doesn't sell beer and is only a daytime gaff.

I think this is spot on, luckily most of the Thai's I know have opened their eyes to the world, so maybe my view is slightly slanted somewhat. I have heard Thai's call actually Indians stinky but never the food.

They weren't the best curry's Mike, three more locals to try so I'll hopefully find the best one!

That looks properly good Hal, wow. Indeed, Pakistani food is at times best than Indian but I wouldn't say better than Begali. I am gonna take my girls to Brick Lane soon.

You can take beer into Tayyabs, but they don't sell it. I think Brick Lane will be my next port of call when I'm in the smoke, but it's only around the corner from Tayyabs and you're spoilt for choice around there anyway.
