^Where's all the sauce gone?
^ this is just a tester, she hasn't roasted the nuts to put in yet, but I was hungry... There's lots of sauce and it'll thicken up nicely too.

Looking good.
She's thinking about adding some macadamia nuts in too...
Bringing beans back with a steak and ale pie.

You have captured that perfectly! The best food pic I've seen in a long time, and it makes me very hungry.
So, you decant your tin of Leo into a glass now?
Beans are very high in estrogen which may explain the English. However, Mexican men eat a lot of frijoles and they're macho bastards. This indicates further studies are needed.

I just didn't know where to put this... but it was dinner after all!
After my rare couple of drinks alone with the dogs... no interference.. it was time to sort our dinner out! Yogi, my drinking companion had long gone...
So I decided to get on and make dinner... from last night's leftover quiche as requested by daughter!
And then the dogs went off... right in the middle of my cooking...
They nailed it... a bloody great kukri snake. I'm not happy about that - I like to see them survive, but that's the way it happened... like I say, don't know where to put this, but it all happened while I was cooking dinner. Apologies if not appropriate, but this is what happens when cooking dinner in Isaan!
Dinner turned out OK afterwards... beans... no peas!

I think Mendip, Chitty and Armstrong probably deserve their own thread.
Lads, you've earned it.![]()
On the beans theory, I used to love em when I was a student and a bit short of cash. Beans on toast topped with cheddar cheese and brown sauce. Mmmmmm. These days? Not so much.
Oddly enough, my wife still loves them as does the rest of her family. They were given them as kids by British soldiers stationed in Malaysia and I guess they must see them as being quite exotic.![]()
^ Every so often I feel like smashing beans on toast, but it's never quite the same as it was years ago.
^^ They'll be in your cupboards for years, Dil.
Anyway, I had a go at falafel a few weeks ago. I used to live on them when I was in the Middle East and still get the odd craving for them now.
Soaked the chickpeas overnight and blended them with onion, garlic, parsley and spices...
...and on the 3rd fucking attempt finally got something like the right consistency. Your balls have gotta be nice and firm because if they're too wet, it'll be a right mess.
The moment of truth. Is the temperature in the pan gonna be right? Will they hold together?
Ta da! Perfection! Finally!
As the night went on, I made more and more, all the while getting steadily pissed, so that the only picture I have of the final kebabs/sandwiches is this pretty blurred effort.
Taste was good and the outsides were nice and crispy, but they were still a little too doughy in the middle. 7-7.5/10 I'd say.
Why are the pictures so small?
They're chickpeas, so I'm still getting my norvernness, albeit in an Arabian style.
Best falafel I ever had was in Aleppo, Syria (pre-war obviously) smothered in hummus and served in a flatbread with a spicy chili sauce. So good I went back the next night and chose it over the lamb.
