Thai shrimp and prawn industry is literally based upon slave labour on concentration camp style ships based permanently at sea with the labour there until they die or escape. It's the US model for foreign labour so would be surprised if they banned it. Walmart was the global biggest customer.

However, the shell adds more seafood flavour to the dish, so it has that going for it. Also, more pertinently for Fishy, he can grip the tail in his fingers and feed one to his love without the risk of it slipping from his fingers and falling into her ravenous bosom, only to be seen again when the weather warms up and she has a shower... sometime in March.

Preferring their food items prepared/processed akin to the civilised worlds, less a real natural presence.

Needing to explain simply leaves me to consider the source.

The shells (removed prior to cooking) are used to make stock in the Stroller household.

^That the idea! Some fish heads in the mix as well as fodder. Winner.

I think you should do a photo-thread on that.

Says some total fuckwit who's entire *life* revolves around posting absolute garbage on forums (that he's not banned from for posting scat). If that's the real life you want others to observe, feel free to go fuck yourself...

There's a quick and easy method of removing them using a fork and spoon. The meat of the prawn slides out completely, seperating it from the shell.

^Yep. But what's the purpose of leaving the fucking things on in the first place when they could have been easily removed while shelling the rest of it?. In a crumbed prawn or prawn cocktail, yeah ok. In typical stir-fry dishes that have prawns, no.

Fried and barbecued shrimp shells are crunchy and tasty. I bet you think chicken bones are inedible too.

The shrip came deveined and shelled with exception of the tail. I feed the tail shells that I don't eat to the dogs and have them lick my flippers clean.

    What's the big deal?

^ Nice breasts. I find nothing wrong with a little tail either.

Bet you can't eat just one.

Caught on Farm @ sunrise, iced, sorted at the local wholesale market, off to the Retail market,
bought by locals and in their Tom Yum by Dinner time. Virtually no 'food miles'.

Perfect - bet they are great as well. Not quite the same as the multi million dollar companies though who are indeed slave traders. The whole world should follow your model.

    Have a green.

That's lahmacun (Turkish pizza) although it usually looks a bit better than that with a smattering of 'erbs on top. Turkey is a wonderful country and its food doesn't get the credit it deserves these days.

...agree: doner kebab is the absolute least of it; much of what we might think of as Lebanese (or eastern Med) is, in fact, of Turkish origin...

Even the humble doner is actually decent lamb compared to most of the horrors that pass for a "doner kebab" in the UK. A mucker and I did a few weeks travelling in Turkey, Syria and Lebanon before it all kicked off and we had some outstanding food along the way.

How it went wrong in Egypt I do not know...
