The Russian bathhouse I go to also does some shit hot shashlik.

On my phone at the mo, so can't post a photo, but I had some great chicken and pork this week.

It just emphasises for me how great the Soviet Union was and how superior they were to the US in every department- including BBQ.

That reminds me about restaurant Saslik in Helsinki where the bear steak melts in your mouth and where the vodka flows.
No shots there, waitress (an old matruska) opened a new bottle, put it on the table, and later when preparing the bill she took a glance at the remains to decide how much to charge.

You'd be behaving badly if you had to watch your national team managed by Gareth Southgate.

On a family holiday and staying at a 5 bedroom AirBnB that comes with a bbq, pool, billiards table, and karaoke machine. Not bad for approx $300 per night.

The BBQing, Grillin, Smoking Mega Thread-img_7866-jpeg

Actually it’s a small crappy little gasser, but any port in a storm. Time to rustle up a feed for approx 17 mouths.

Start with ordering a few kilos of sirloin and ribeye. Add a dry rub and leave it for a few hours. Then make a chimichurri sauce and allow the flavours to meld.

The BBQing, Grillin, Smoking Mega Thread-6c52ae43-6e4f-45fe-ba3d-b76112ae311f-jpeg

Meanwhile wrap some taters, sweet potato and carrots in foil and place on top of Q for approx an hour. Turn once. Once hot, leave them in the foil, pack into an eski to keep warm.

Slice the meat and grill time. Took about four sessions to cook all the meat on that tiny Q.

    And serve! Yum.

A cold and wet one in the forest with leaves dripping today

So an excuse to warm up with a toasty snag-fest

The BBQing, Grillin, Smoking Mega Thread-20240703_205648-jpg

Cheered on by a Pacific-Islander lady from Samoa

The BBQing, Grillin, Smoking Mega Thread-20240703_210151c-jpg

Ketchup and mustard lifts these Coles beef snags to new heights and Miss Samoa wolfed them down so I whipped up a bowl of covid broth to spin the meal out

The BBQing, Grillin, Smoking Mega Thread-20240703_210902-jpg

It was cold night but I was allowed a sneaky peek at the traditional female Samoan Tatau called the Malu which covers the legs and hips like a pair of cycle shorts stretching from the waist down to the knees.

The BBQing, Grillin, Smoking Mega Thread-20240703_225042-jpg

She showed me photos of the similar male traditional Samoan Tatau called the Pe'a which cover the same area but are more dense and include a solid black stripe down the nethers, with the solid inking extending to the edge of the anus. So I guess the Samoans are not big on anal bleaching.

The BBQing, Grillin, Smoking Mega Thread-screenshot-2024-07-04-png

I was relieved to note by the firelight later that Miss Samoa was not sporting the solid black stripe

of course they are mate! Nearly all the good meat in Indonesia, Malaysia or Singapore is imported from Aus. It’s a no brainer.

Man was it tender. It was like a beer can chicken.

Oh yeah, my wife loves chicken feet DW. In fact when I first put the chicken on the table, those were on her plate before anything else.
