Me too
I found the stares annoying when I read People's Daily on paper.
Now I get smiles :)

I am exactly the opposite. I have a personal rule that when I am out eating with wife, others or by myself the electronic devices are put away. This is the time to socialize with each other and I enjoy saying hello and making conversation with others.
Edith and I shared a delish Chongqing Lazji (辣子鸡) and spring rolls from a genuine Chinese reso.

Was something like 300 baht, but with loyalty points and the pro subscription it was 140thb.
Fok going out to the supermarket, cooking, cleaning, when Mr. Ching-Chong and Mr. Sunil-Sanjay will deliver top notch traditional English takeaway food for peanuts. :yup:
Kids stopping by on the way through, left overs lunch. Yesterday in the supermarket got a chitty special; a load of peppers and courgettes discounted so ratatouille it is, with some new pots and sausages that need using up.
6 peppers, a very large onion, 3 courgettes, 1 lemon, a small bulb of garlic, 2 tins of toms, a load of EVOO, salt, pepper, a dash of sugar and herbs de provence bubble away for a bit. Enough for lunch and some for the freezer.

with the ratatouille

Interesting, but I bet it would work. Some kind of spicy sausage would go with that too I reckon, maybe a chorizo in with the rat...rata...ratat...stewed vegetables. :)
Just marinating the pork belly for my jeyuk bokkeum tomorrow.

Looks like I've missed a bit middle right!
Thursday is curry day, so it was rice and three at another of my old Pakistani chaat house haunts on the backstreets of town with the pimps, hustlers and Chitty types. :)

Who the fuck slipped that korma on the bloody menu?!??!??! Has that southern ponce Dil been here? :)

They do a cracking naan at this place in the tandoor, so I gave my usual chapati a swerve in favour of the bad boy below with tarka daal, spinach and potato and chicken karahi. Could have done with a bit more sauce with the chicken, but it was still mint and a handful of chopped chilies on top set me up nicely for tonight's heartburn attack. :)

May we never be separated, curry, you bloody lovely food of the gods. :UK:
I'm going to give that place a try next week!
How many pre meal beers did you have?
Respecto!

3.65 Canadian. Works out to 94.43 Baht for a slice of pizza that doesn't fit in a regular sized plate + drink

^ A green for the Pepsi
On the subject of pizza, this place was recommended to me by a couple of Italians over here for the summer (from Naples no less) Rudy'''s Neapolitan Pizza - Home, so I popped in on Friday.

It's a chain but was very good and reasonably priced for the crazy times we're living in.
Obligatory football scarf behind the bar...and Napoli too so keeping the Neapolitan vibe real.
Attachment 105152
No quattro formaggi on the menu so went for a margherita and a cinghiale.

A bit stingy on the basil and salami (a ridiculously good wild boar salami, mind) but still decent pizzas.

Two good pizzas and a couple of beers for 30 quid for 2 of us. That's value! :)
^ That does look good.
I've had a few of those Porettis these last few weeks and it's OK.
When I was growing up my mum put a roast on the table every single Sunday, and she still does when we visit. It's always chicken and there are always peas.
And this was a small plate.

Who can clean their plate? That's an incredible amount of superb good look food, but that's a lot.
To be honest it looks bigger than it was. That's only a moderate chicken leg and three pieces of roast potato, to get things in scale. The plates are small.
I understand completely. We had the same tradition in the US...about 50 years ago, sad to say. It was the after church lunch thing for us.
LOL, the plates are small defense is resurrected! :) :) It looks great Mendip and I'm sure you appreciate the effort that was made, it's a rare thing anymore.
^^ cooking for three kids a sunday lunch for me used to be 2 chickens or a 2 Kg Pork joint, that was Sunday and Monday/Tuesday and some sandwiches + about 3 Kgs of Veg - you soon learn to cook once feed twice or more.
^ We wiill have cold chicken and stuffing sandwiches for tea. It would also normally be lunch tomorrow but I still have fish an' chips to cross off my list and also picked up some lamb chops today for another lunch. And only two lunches to go!
They should go in the Daily Cheer thread really, I got 7 chops for the price of 6 as the butcher wanted to finish them up.
Leg of Lamb when it was cheaper or two shoulders, next day same and then like Mum, mince it with the Kenwood and make Sheppard's Pie bulked out with loads of veg. About 4 nights worth of meals.
The bones off all these meals get saved and frozen and then another evening/lunch or two making soup & veg with loads of bread to pack it out.
I think it depended where in the country you lived. 40 years ago pricing was less universal and more local.
^^ You can see the gravy boat at the far end of the table. There was plenty but I must have taken the pic pre-pour, which was a bit of a mistake.
I think my mum goes for chicken every week cos she's on her own and it's cheaper than the other meats, and she finds it more versatile with little effort, ie cold chicken meals and broths.
When we were kids we had a variety of roasts with lamb rissoles etc on Mondays. I don't think she can be bothered with the effort just for herself.
I had a chicken dinner today. A nice easy roast in the bag spatchcock

Missus had all the skin and parsons nose gone with.
I need a bigger plate really so I too could add sausages and greens.
Where did your Mom get those platters from mate?
