I am exactly the opposite. I have a personal rule that when I am out eating with wife, others or by myself the electronic devices are put away. This is the time to socialize with each other and I enjoy saying hello and making conversation with others.

When I'm eating with others at the same table, I do agree with you. When I'm out solo, not so much.
