Today cooked a shepards pie using lamb mince the young shark biscuit wolfed it down but his bro flat out refused to even attempt to turn it into a turd. That pissed me of but hes 15 and fussy. Just how it is i guesz. Anyhoo i had some crumbed snapper and salt n pepper squid that only need 20 minutes in the oven, so hes fed now and were speaking again.

Wet and coolish (27C) morning here in Phuket, so a beef and mushroom pie for lunch was called for. What to have with it though? A small cabbage at the bottom of the fridge winked at me, but how to cook it to make it interesting? A cabbage surprise ensued.
First off, discarded the outer layer of cabbage then cut into wedges. Into some salted water and simmered for 15 minutes before being strained and put into the bottom of an ovenproof dish.

Peeled and chopped up an onion and a carrot, sauteed in some oil and butter with crushed garlic for the same time as the cabbage cooked.

Put drops of tomato puree, and a scattering of smoked hot paprika added next.

It's looks like the Cambodian style of gristle, bones and tendons.

Was time to do up a batch of kid (and Lulu) friendly chicken breasts in breadcrumbs, to have in the deep freeze for emergencies.
5 breasts, each cut into 4. That equals 20 total pieces if me toes and fingers aren't playing tricks on me.

Boxes of flour, beaten eggs, breadcrumbs with S&P and Italian herbs.
Deep fat frier.
One into the flour, lid on shake.
Into the egg wash, turn.
Into the breadcrumbs, lid on and shake the Lulu out of it.
Into the deep fat frier.
By the time the next one is prepped and ready to rock n roll the first one is just about done.
Remove onto rack, nick the deepest part to make sure it's cooked through. Next one in.

The wife did a green curry chicken today that was ok, but not one of her finer efforts. The eggplant in Korea isn't to my liking, so I prefer it with green beans.

With our pending trip back to the wine country coming up for my Moms service, my wife is going with me this trek and with that it requires she has her comfort food plus she is making up sauces to cook for my Dad.

We just ordered 12 McNuggets + 2 French fries, at the request of Edweena. Edweena then ate 1 and said she wasn't hungry, Edith refused to eat any, so I got 11 McNuggets and 2 packs of fries to myself.

Pulled a box of what I thought was bolognaise from the freezer this morning, turns out it was a minced pork stew kind of thing. No matter, a spoonful of tomato paste gave it the richness of a bolognaise. I'd already started making some tagliatelle, and as it was only me having it, didn't bother with the pasta machine.

The last couple of bread rolls from a previous batch out of the freezer, so went for an almost BLT. Almost, though pickled carrot and radish instead of lettuce, sliced pork instead of bacon, and homemade Sriracha sauce instead of tomato for that desirable 2 hour burn in the esophagus. Nearly though.
