Seems to me both sides need this agreement. The US forces remit is to concentrate resources in the Pacific for very obvious reasons.
PI needs the financial lift that VFA can provide. So many potential upsides for PI.

Hearts and minds campaign not helped by Pemberton trial but if the US wants it they will have to work that much harder.

My own experience of working with US forces in UK, Germany and as part of ACE mobile force land, was quite positive. First impressions they do come across as very insular. Get to know them through work and socially/off duty and they are much more like us than we care to admit.

When this Pemberton issue goes away, they need to begin a charm offensive.

When I enlisted, I was 5'10" and about 135lbs - in great shape from working for a moving company. When I got back from a year of injury, disease, lack of sleep and lack of food in Vietnam, I doubt I was 125lbs.

After 18 months of mess hall food, weight rooms, and being the Company primary physical training instructor, I got out, at age 21, at close to 180lbs.

Lots of these kids tend to start packing on the muscle after a few years of service. Most of those surrounding Pemberton look very young and low-ranking - as it would be for a donkey job like that.

His legal team today filed a lengthy brief seeking to have the charge reduced from murder to manslaughter, citing numerous legal and procedural problems with the court's decision to charge him with murder. Most of the points they made seemed extremely good ones to me.

Whiny letter from Jeff's faggot Kraut about the financial pain and suffering he endured because his employer was miffed at his being in papers all over Germany as a fag who was deported from the PI. I think that's what they're shooting for, Norts. It's very hard, in my opinion, to make a case for premeditated murder when he had met Jeff only minutes before, and according to testimony from Jeff's tranny running partner, at the time Pemberton entered the hotel room, he still thought they were both female.

So yeah, I would say ole Jeff whipped out his dick, and Pemberton, who had been drinking, just lost it.

Having read some more stuff today, it appears the prosecution is going for murder vice manslaughter based on the severity of the injuries and viciousness of the attack.

Take this with a HUGE amount of skepticism, as it comes from scum lawyer Roque, but he claims the victim was bitten, savagely beaten black and blue all over his body, had a broken neck, and was drowned in the toilet.

The autopsy said nothing about a broken neck that I recall. And who really cares? I don't. Would it have been less or more of a crime if he had just quietly strangled him? Dead is dead.

In fact, I think the frenzy of the attack, if true, plays to the fact that Pemberton totally lost in when Jeff waved a dick at him and his homophobic Jarhead brain imploded.

Court just denied prosecution's request for Pemberton's transfer to a local jail.

Sounds like Pemberton has a fairly switched on defence team, and the showboating lawyer has been sussed by the courts.

^Pretty much. He's going down, as he should, but I hate to see the kid go down due to a scummy lawyer with a political agenda that has nothing to do with the case.

I once was a stupid 19 year old Private in a foreign country - as were several of us - stupid things can happen. I believe that Pemberton killed the guy. I don't condone it, and I don't excuse it. If he killed the guy, no matter the provocation, he was wrong, and should face the consequences. A simple punch in the face and a walk out the door would have done it - he took it several levels above that.

I don't know what happened in those few minutes in that hotel room - only Pemberton does. But it cost two lives.

I feel some sympathy for Pemberton - whether posters like it or not. I feel none for Laude. Laude wrote the script for this drama, like drama queens do. Pemberton just didn't react like a pole-smoking Kraut faggot.

Pembertons life aint over, he will Improvise, Adapt and Overcome.

He might even be pardoned one day, if the world comes to it's senses, then he will given as medal for services to humanity, his back pay for several years , and a heroes welcome back to the USA.

I guess there is nothing going on with this case last couple of weeks. Feb things should start moving again. Court case slow, but what about anti-VFA protest anything ? What about USN ships pulling into port ? Still a no liberty restriction going on ?
