    I mean, we get it.

Are you going to spend the rest of the day chuntering on about how you were right, and that the naive fools have been proven wrong in saying (strangely only in your version, unsupported by quotes) that the Thai police do a great job and the country is populated by virginal angels?

What a way to spend your ever diminishing time on this earth.

Please be nicer to The Gent.

He is quite old and sometimes he repeats himself.

Post 295 states that they never stopped people from leaving the island. I am sure the killers are long gone at this point staying as low as possible.

Unfortunately, I think you're ^ quite right. This sad and pointless death of two kids with their whole lives to live will, at this point, probably never be solved.

My personal opinion, and that's all it is, is that the male victim got into a beef with a Thai bar worker, and that he and the female victim were followed down the beach to a relatively deserted area and fatally attacked by the Thai and one or more of his buddies.

While the BIB dithered, the perpetrators, who may well have had only minimal or no ties to the island community, hopped a boat out in the morning and are now long, long gone.

    There will be traces.

And to be fair, I have observed a few instances over the years in which Thai police have successfully and efficiently nabbed various perpetrators.

Davis, the thing is, in police terms an operation to narrow the field would not be too challenging but it would require basic organisation and scrupulous attention to detail, and as we know these attributes are not the Thai strongest suits.

Simply put, establish who was resident on the island, either as a migrant worker or as an indigent, on the day before the murder and of those determine who left on the day of the murders' discovery, locate and interview. All remaining male indigents and migrant workers between the ages of 16 - 50 remaining on the island to be interviewed and sampled for their DNA.

Kind of basic really. Long, boring but methodical detective work.

I have lived half of my 30 ish years in Thailand. I speak fluent Thai (woopdee - doo) here is my take on the Thai people (excuse my broad generalizations).

There are good and bad Thais, just like there are good and bad Englishmen, Kiwis (like me) Americans etc, etc...

I just think that us 'Farang" have less extremes of good and bad... again, generally speaking, most of us are not saints by any stretch of the imagination, but most of us don't go around killing each other, raping and the like.

Anyway, Thais tend to have really brilliant, nice/kind people that I am sure we are all familiar with. Then we have the ass munchers that The Gent has so tenderly identified, but at least he has the balls to say what he honestly believes (rightly or wrongly).

I dunno if you guys have heard of kim.com anyway, he's mega rich from his dodgy download sites and has sought refuge in my country (New Zealand) from his native Germany. He is even trying to worm his fat ass into NZ politics.

Anyway, my point is he's been quoted as referring to us as "cheap ass farmers"

Now, should I automatically refute this simply because I am a Kiwi? or should I ask myself honestly, does that statement hold any truth? The honest answer is, he's probably right *generally speaking.

Even some Thais will openly admit their shortcomings/faults.. try it yourself, ask your wife/partner are Thai people jealous? most will say yes, they are. So, my point is that every race of people has their pros/cons or strengths and weaknesses.

lets just man up, and call a spade a spade. Of course Thais are capable of cold-blooded murder, so are we. Morally, should we speculate as to what nationality committed those murders? probably not, but their denying the possibility that the perpetrators might be Thai has given the real murderer(s) a window of opportunity to evade capture...

Anyway, I am no wordsmith like some of you guys, it's been a long ass week.
Just some simple random thoughts from some simple random guy.

I still do believe that the vast majority of people on this planet are decent (including the Thais).

    Peace guys

Thailand islanders offer reward for clues on British tourist killers

BANGKOK (AFP) - Residents on the Thai island where two British tourists were brutally murdered have pooled their funds into a reward for clues about the killers, an official said Friday, as police hunted for fresh leads.

The search for suspects continued on the southern diving island of Koh Tao after David Miller, 24, and Hannah Witheridge, 23, were found naked and beaten to death near a beachside bungalow early Monday.

The police investigation appeared to have stalled after post-mortem examinations of the victims' bodies in Bangkok failed to find DNA links to key suspects questioned so far.

"At this point we offer 50,000 baht (S$1,965.59) for anyone who can provide clues which lead to the arrest of a suspect," Koh Tao mayor Chaiyan Turasakul told AFP.

Yeah, there might be an employer there thinking right now that one or two of his employees haven't shown up for work. Not that many people living there so some scuttlebutt must be about.

The minimal ties to the community would indeed make it unsolvable at this point. Let's hope that is not the case.

It was Col. Mustard wot did it guv, and I claim my 50000baht reward.

Shouldnt rewards be offered for convictions rather than arrests?

Bribery and interference aside, Thai cops closure rate would be pretty high I would think.
Because of the defamation laws they won't even call someone a suspect let alone arrest them until they think it's all in the bag.
I doubt many criminals walk free from court.

Headlines aside, in direct quotes the Brit was always called a potential or possible suspect.

Thailand beach murders: Desperate police DNA test WOMEN and measure footprints in bizarre public investigation

Local bar staff were lined up in just yards from the scene where Hannah Witheridge and David Miller were killed

Thai police this morning DNA tested WOMEN to see if they were involved in the horrific murders of Hannah Witheridge and David Miller.

The female bar and restaurant workers were all given a sign to hold with a number and their name on it.

They were then photographed and forced to have their FOOTPRINTS tested.

Local staff – women and men – were also given mouth swabs on the beach.

These were the extraordinary scenes on the island of Koh Tao this morning as police tried to find the killer.

Just two yards from where the murder weapon – a bloodied garden hoe – was found they lined up dozens of local staff.

They waited politely to be called and then went back to work in local bars and restaurants as the testing finished.

General Suramanpee said his staff were liaising with Scotland Yard and he did not think “it was necessary” for Met officers to join the probe.

He was reacting to [at]accusations from journalists that the inquiry had descended into chaos.

He said the key to finding the killer lay in a single discarded cigarette butt which had DNA on it that matched samples from inside Hannah’s body.

He said: “We do not know who the murderer is. We are working very hard to solve this crime. I cannot say who the murderer is right now.

“We haven’t messed up. We need more progress, we need to work up more evidence. DNA tests on the cigarette prove it was not either of the victims or the two British brothers.

I can’t say if he is still on the island.

“If the Met Police want to come here they are welcome but I don’t think it is necessary. We still don’t know if the killer was Burmese, Thai or foreign.”

The butt of the cigarette, found very close to Hannah’s battered body, is a brand normally smoked only by Thai and Burmese people.

A guitarist and two singers described as suspects were later traced by officers, interviewed and allowed to go.

Mr Copper you are a fucking moron. A blind, retarded, drunk, clap infected, chimpanzee, with acute asthma and repeatedly dropped on the head as a baby would be able to run a murder investigation better than you. You are a miserable pathetic excuse of a copper who has spent his life and career with your fingers in the till, drunk no doubt, and last but not least never EVER learning anything about police work.

    What a dick.

Fess up - its one of your own that did it with a chickenhead accomplice. The way you are deliberately fucking this up, it is almost certain the culprits are themselves or related to the local cops or family of yours.

    Appalling.
