Greenleaf, Simon, 1783–1853, American legal writer, b. Newburyport, Mass. A member of the Maine bar, he won a high reputation for legal scholarship early in his career. With the admission (1820) of Maine as a state, he was elected to a term in the legislature and was appointed reporter of the Maine supreme court. In 1833 he resigned this position and accepted the invitation of Joseph Story to become a professor of law at Harvard. Much of the excellence of Harvard Law School is attributed to these two men. Greenleaf's Treatise on the Law of Evidence (3 vol., 1842–53) for many years was the standard American work on the subject."

    FACT.

It is impossible to either prove, or, disprove the existence of God, so, why bother. We will all find out one day. Let's just wait until then.

it seems a shame that all the longest threads wind up being arugements with crazies like smeg and kerux ....
Stop being so concerned about the longest threads, and start being concerned with content and you won't have a problem w/o posters.

    The internet is about content.

Taking a non-interesting topic and trying to develop content isn't going to make a long thread.

The content and the arguments you so much diskike will.

It is not possible to scientifically prove or disprove the existence of God. It is a matter of faith. I respect the people who believe there is one or many Gods.

But science will prevail, because false theories are eventually disproved.

Trying to study the gospels to find out the truth about the resurrection is akin to study the play of Hamlet trying to find out if Shakespeare's mother was menstruating when he penned the "To be or not to be" monologue in Hamlet.

Show us this 'observable evidence." Where is it?
You may search for this yourself, if you are interested - not an easy subject, but it's all documented.

Science has developed instruments to measure what you cannot observe with your eyes. Or do you not believe in the "paradigm" which enables us to install Tsunami warning systems, for example, either?
Perhaps Television doesn't show images of real people, is it an illusion created by the Devil?

    Answer me this, kerux:
Do you believe the earth is flat? Do you know anyone who has 'observed' it being a globe?

    Astronauts?

But seriously, many people especially sailors and people that lived on the coast knew that the earth wasn't flat well before it became accepted. They may not have known that it was round, but, they knew it was curved.
For them, it was the only way to explain why you could only see the masts of ships as they came over the horizon. The closer the ship came, the more they could see of it.
Of course, there was no way that they were going to speak out, as they knew that the church considered any opinion other than its own was heresy and that they would be tortured and burnt at the stake if they did point out this observable fact.

Well, if you know this to be a fact, bring one documented piece of evidence here for us to take a look at.

A tsunami warning system is most likely based upon the seismic graph as it's primary warning aid. There's a huge difference between measuring seismic activity like earthquakes, and the movement of entire regions of the earth an inch a year.

    Get real.

    Red herring.

And neither do I believe you have the thinking part of your body up the sitting part of your body, despite the evidence you provide to the contrary.

Yuri Gagarin in 1962 was the first man in space.
During his 89 minute orbit he radioed "I don't see any God up here."

On April 12, 1961, Gagarin became the first human to travel into space in Vostok 3KA-2 (Vostok 1). His call sign in this flight was Cedar (Russian: Кедр). According to international media, from orbit Gagarin made the comment, "I don't see any god up here." There are, however, no such words in the full verbatim record of Gagarin's conversations with the Earth during the spaceflight [1].

The whole thread has become and was and will always be boring. You'll never win, no matter what side you are on. Life is living, show me where God or whatever you want to call him is living in this life and that ANYONE can see him/her or whatever the bugger may be, you or anyone else cannot, so forget it.

I live with other people EVERY day and THEY are the only GODS to me.

It is said that there is NO ONE perfect under the sun and I have yet to meet anyone that came close. If GOd or whatever exist, they are doing a fucked up job of stuff. You're born into sin, what kind of crap is this, God will forgive ANY sin, another load of crap. I can go kill someone for whatever reason: IE: you're not MY religion, you said bad things, you did this, you did that and as long as you did this in the name of "whatever" and profess these things, then you are forgiven or go onto a bunch of virgins.

    I read this somewhere once:

GAG, "GET A GRIP" on REALITY, it might just set you free.

Eliminator is correct. So why don't you ask yourself why you are such a failure. You fail to convince anyone here or on ajarn of your beliefs. Why don't you ask your self why you are such a failure? What answer do you give?
