BAGHDAD, Iraq - The U.S. military reported Wednesday that nine American troops had been killed in bombings and combat, raising to 67 the number of U.S. troops killed in October.
    today's the 18th, so there's 13 days to go.....i think it'll easily pass 100.

i don't think the record of 137 will be broken though....but you never know.

    ^ Like I said,

It doesn't matter how many more Americans get killed or wounded at this point.

It's all up to public opinion, and more importantly perhaps:

    The Iraq Study Group,

Headed by James A. Baker III and 5 Dems and 5 Republicans.

If the Iraq Study Group advises a 3-way break-up of Iraq (which is only advice to the administration) you can expect a full-on fight for Oil, as the Sunnis are on the short end of the stick.

Either way, the Americans are losing.

Either way, the Americans will lose.

And finally, new rule in two parts: (A) You can't call yourself a think tank if all your ideas are stupid; and (B) If you're someone from one of these think tanks that dreamed up the Iraq War and who predicted that

    we'd be greeted as liberators,
and that we wouldn't need a lot of troops,
and that Iraqi oil would pay for the war,
that the WMD's would be found,
    that the looting wasn't problematic,
    that the mission was accomplished,
that the insurgency was in its last throes,
that things would get better after the people voted,
    after the government was formed,
    after we got Saddam,
    after we got his kids,
    after we got Zarqawi,
and that whole bloody mess wouldn't turn into a civil war,

you have to stop making predictions

    Hey ray ...

Can I Call You Unpatriotic and a Traitor Since You're Rooting For Your Own Country To Lose A War?

I don't think supporting the American government and PNAC in Iraq is about patriotism.

I don't think it's about partiotism at all.

The PNAC is largely behind this.

Get together, make a plan, install a puppet government, that is Shiite now less, and then reap the profits.

History will look very sternly on this who charade.

As you know, I don't support the PNAC.

^ I am rooting for any groups that are fighting against the Americans in Iraq.

And I consider myself to be very patriotic.

Patriotism is not about the military, or military operations, IMO.

    It's largely about the Constitution.

    Here's a question:

    What is an American victory?

Is that your answer ? If you want to invent your own definiton of victory then I have no objection to that being your answer to my question.

My point is this: What is an American victory in Iraq.

The Nuri Al-Malaki and Sayyid Muqtada Al-Sadr coalition Shiite government?

You think Saddam Hussein was anti-American?

Just wait until (if) a Shiite government gets in bed with Iran.

My support is political - the military has nothing to do with this right now.

It's political and sectarian in Iraq.

Here is my answer. The same answer I've had for 3.5 yeras:

Yes, I want the Americans to lose in Iraq.

... then what outcome is it that your hoping for ultimately ?
Outcome: U.S. forces leave Iraq and focuses on helping its own people.

I don't care what happens in Iraq. It's very far away, and has a different history and culture, and religion.

We have a lot of issue in the U.S. that needs attention, IMO.

I can't get a straight answer to my question. So I guess I'll have to move on to your question.

Best case to me would be something along the lines of countries such as Turkey, Egypt or Jordan ... maybe Malaysia.

SK - Is it really unpatriotic to hope one's own country would loose an unjust and unnecessary war?

Let's take a purely hypothetical case: Let's say the US went to war in, say, South Africa to reinstate the Apartheid regime (Silly, but bear with me). Any black South Africans who resisted would be killed (it is a war, after all). Your military gets bogged down in a terrible fight, with blacks from neighbouring countries streaming into South Africa to help what they rightly percieve as neocolonialism, and hundreds of thousands of South Africans end up dying from US bombs/guns or starvation and/or decease.

Now let's say you are a US citizen and are disgusted with the action of your government (which in this case, I am sure you would have been) - what would you do? Be unpatriotic and a traitor and suggest your government has done the wrong thing, or simply be a patriot and cheer the military on?

Just trying to figure out if there is a limit to your patriotism, that's all....
Any error in tact, fact or spelling is purely due to transmissional errors...

Another oxymoron: is it possible to support your troops in a war that is unpopular? How do you support them without supporting the cause?

Unrestrained patriotism is as dangerous as fanatical fundamentalism.

    Laughing out loud.

    So, according to your reasoning:

American citizens MUST support Sayyid Muqtada Al-Sadr, who has killed American troops in Faluja and is virulently an American hater?

You don't know what's going on Iraq.

Al-Sadr AND Al Maliki are in bed with Ahmadinejad and the government of Iran.

    You are truly hilarious mate.
