Some Good News from the UK for a change

The Scottish National Party has pulled off a stunning by-election victory by winning Glasgow East, one of Labour's safest seats, by 365 votes.
The SNP overturned a Labour majority of 13,507 to win with a swing of 22.54%.
The SNP polled 11,277 votes in the contest, while the Tories came third with 1,639 and the Lib Dems, with 915 votes, came fourth.
SNP candidate John Mason said the victory was "off the Richter scale", while Labour expressed disappointment.
Voter turnout was 42.25%, down on the 48% figure at the last election, with 26,219 votes cast.
The result was declared at Glasgow's Tollcross Leisure Centre in the early hours of Friday, after a recount was requested by Labour, which won 10,912 votes in the contest.

A very good result for the SNP. They have worked hard in Glasgow to remove all the hypocrisy of the Scottish Labour Party and their jobs for the boys mentality. This should be a serious wake up call for Labour in Scotland no seat is safe now.
The Scottish First Minister will be very pleased with this outcome it has been a long time coming. The SNP are now a major obstacle to Labour in Scotland as for the also rans they might as well pack up and head south Tories and Lib Dems, there is nothing for them in Scotland in any case

As far as I can see the only difference is that a bunch of welfare addicted freeloaders have swapped Labour for a different gift horse.

Nevertheless, the bloody nose meted out to the Stalinistas was still very much appreciated and marked another nail hammered home into the Clown's coffin here in Blighty.

You dont see very well at all then do you, explain the freeloaders? there are more freeloaders in London than in Scotland you arrogant cnut. But I suppose this is to be expected of someone who lives in Thailand and berates another nationality because they decided to do something about the freedom of their vote.
Remember you have not got a vote in Thailand and never will have, the Thais will see to that believe me.
And as for freeloading I will guarantee you that there are more freeloaders in England than in Scotland.GIRUY

You could put a red rose on a donkey, and they would vote for it there. Wouldnt surprise me if they try to blame this recession on maggie.

Labour deserved to loose after the way they rolled over and pissed all over themselves when Bush snapped his fingers. Probably not the reason for the big swing in votes but some constolation all the same. Perhaps a sign of bigger things to come?

Englandistan is not mature enough to have it's own parliament. More talented people rule them and try to prevent them from harming themselves.

Romans built a wall because English builders were not qualified, and there was no guarantee to keep the Picts out.
I cannot wait for the Tories to get into power, that will really suit middle England and the south. Cameron for Prime Minister? After watching his performances at the dispatch box in the House of Commons I think I would rather have Jonathan f*uckin Ross he talks more sense and is better on television.

I'm not sure that the Tories getting into power in England will necessarilly be a good thing for Scotland. The Scottish government seems to function well when they don't have any major blowups with our southern neighbours. Yes the present labour bunch are blocking the reform of local government tax, but I suspect that the tories would be much worse.

Personally I`d rather have William Haigh leading the way, but Cameron will do for now. At least he couldnt possibly do a worse job than the current bunch of idiots. Jesus H, weve gone back to the 70`s again. Strikes galore, true inflation going through the roof, unemployment getting higher and higher. How long will it be before were on a 3 day week again?

The Sweats are heading down the same road: more taxation, more welfare, more government and less growth. Recession is as inevitable there as it is elsewhere in Great Britain.

But at least you can still walk down that road south with the good Dr. Johnson........

Provisional estimates show that for the calendar year 2007 the UK recorded a government deficit of £39.4 billion, which was equivalent to 2.8 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP). This reference value in the Maastricht Treaty's Excessive Deficit Procedure sets deficit and debt targets of 3 per cent and 60 per cent respectively for all EU countries. The UK's compliance is assessed on financial year data.

At the end of December 2007 general government debt was £618.8 billion, equivalent to 43.8 per cent of GDP.

These data were reported to the European Commission at the end of March 2008."

Of course. Look who the government are. Sadly much of the UK is too stupid to realise the damage that is done to the country by Labour.

I have never seen a government in any country that is not in politics for its own interests. It does not matter who is in power in the UK, they have an agenda which basically states look after number one.
Labour,Tories,LibDems all the others they have no interest in what the voter wants as long as it follows there mandate that keeps them in power.
UK is not the only country in this position either, the downturn economically is affecting not only the western world and the G8 countries, everyone is affected.
Brown,Blair,Cameron or whoever was in power at this time would be affected. We just need to ride this storm and hope this is a downturn and does not turn into a worldwide recession.
