^I know a guy here in S. Florida that listens to Rush and I hear him repeating FOX talking points. He'll pick me up for lunch every now and then when I'm in town and will switch the radio channel (real quick) once I'm in his car. I'll tease him for repeating that gibberish.

Heh...not likely there, clueless. Rush now has the biggest audience he's had in years.

"Limbaugh’s fans will galvanize around him, not abandon him. Many of his detractors are listening because they feel vindicated, he explained, and still others are tuning in to hear what the fuss is about."

It isn't his fans that directly pay for his lavish lifestyle, expensive divorces and drug abuse though. That would be his advertisers- and they are dwindling. I am sure Limbaugh will continue to have a considerable audience, about half of whom tune in to listen to his lowbrow gospel, the other half for a lowbrow chuckle.

Rush is driven by higher motives than vulgar money isn't he?, and surely that is a good thing- because you can bet his fat paycheck is a going down. But he won't need to diet, or even eat what the average American eats these days.

FFS, Limbaugh's show is syndicated. He don't need advertisers. Again, I never heard a McD radio ad on his show or on ANY radio show.

^^ Yes, he has advertisers (as I noted previously), but I just noted here that folks pay to listen to his show. Again, I ain't never heard a McD ad nor the bulk of the others noted above.

Rush has more than his own big mouth to worry about now- he's got head to head competition about to commence from another big mouth. Oh, and Minnie- there is a succinct lesson here in the economics of Talk Radio, do read it -

But on April 2, Limbaugh will face a more-serious challenge. That’s when the new Mike Huckabee show launches on 100 stations in Limbaugh’s very own noon-to-3 time slot.

Huckabee’s competition threatens Limbaugh not only because Huckabee has already proven himself an attractive and popular TV broadcaster, but also because Huckabee is arriving on the scene at a time when Limbaugh’s business model is crashing around him.

To understand the power of Huckabee’s challenge to Limbaugh, you have to understand the strange economics of talk radio. Most talk-radio programs offer radio stations this deal: we’ll give you three hours of content for free. (Some programs—cough, Glenn, cough, Beck—actually pay radio stations to accept their content.) Those three hours will include 54 minutes of ad time. That ad time is split between the radio station and the show: each gets 27 minutes to sell.

In this world, Limbaugh is unique. He actually charges radio stations for his content: up to $1 million a year in a major market. Plus, he charges the highest ad rates in the business. Those two revenue streams—multiplied by more radio outlets than anybody else in the industry has—have made Limbaugh a very rich man. But those revenue streams always depended on Limbaugh upholding his end of the bargain: delivering the audiences. And on that count, Limbaugh has been notably failing.

As The Daily Beast’s John Avlon reported last week, the audience for right-wing talk has been shrinking since 2009. In some urban markets, Limbaugh’s audience has dropped by as much as half over the past three years. Limbaugh and other right-wing talkers have responded to this economic squeeze by a strategy familiar to Republican politicians: they have played to the base.

But even more than the total size of the audience, radio advertisers care about a measure called TSL: time spent listening. The people who listen longest are of course the most ideologically intense.

A very good and informative article actually, cheers to the author David Frum.

This ongoing controversy is not only effecting Limbaugh but other talk radio personalities also. Premiere Networks is the company syndicating Limbaugh.

Perhaps this is the beginning of the end for this talk format.

Premiere issued a memo last week that lists almost 100 companies, including Geico and JC Penny, that have requested that their ads not run during programs that may contain “offensive or controversial” content that is “likely to stir negative sentiment from a very small percentage of the listening public.”

Limbaugh, along with Sean Hannity, Glen Beck and other talk radio programs were listed as examples of such off-limits programs.

Typical Libtard reasoning. They say they are for 'Free Speech' but cannot handle it when 'Free Speech' is enacted, eh?

btw, don't even try to compare this anti-administration talk with that old saw - you can't shout Fire in a movie theater...

That's what happens when the money for advertising belongs to the Libtards and they take it away from big mouth hate mongers.

Howard Stern makes a pretty penny, but I suppose most Democrat supporters are too busy playing with their Ipads, Iphones & Ithingies, or scaling the corporate career ladder to be listening to talk radio during working hours. AM radio, no less- elsewhere, that went out with the dinosaurs. Maybe it's different in the states, but the most lucrative radio slots were always Peak hours, when people are commuting. Whoever has the time to listen to Rush etc in the middle of the afternoon is unlikely to be a big consumer.

I read recently, some of the firms advertising on radio had noticed how many of their customers responded to the Limbaugh controversy by Internet and were considering switching their advertising dollars from radio advertising to Internet ads.

Is that so? Well maybe you could take an econ 101 class with me. Then we can ask each other about this again.

Sometimes we hear things we don't like. Suck it up. Rush can say what he wants, Maher can say what he wants and Media Matters can say what they want.

    A gospel station?
    Supported by donations?
Is that the best you could come up with?
    Is Limbaugh on that?
Well if so that's ONE channel that won't dump him because he's causing their source of revenue to dry up.

Don't know. When I'm with someone who has it, I always ask them to go to the Reggae channel "The Joint"
    Lots of choices.
