Nearly watched the whole thing now.

Biden is very, very polished isn't he?

Rather like that he calls Iraq 'Iraq' instead of Airaq, he'd get my vote on that alone.

^ Wasn't it you who referred to the American voter as shallow and stupid?

Can you say Isuzu for us?

I didn't watch the debate. Intentionally. Palin has a wide mouth that often distracts me.

I didn't see where Biden looked polished or Palin seemed more intelligent than before. What I did notice is that Biden spoke as if he were running for president. I can imagine Obama and Biden getting along like oil and water.

Traditionally the VP is a silent type that works in the shadows. Biden still wants to be president.

If Biden were the Democratic presidential nominee, he'd be ahead of McCain by 15% points and on his way to a landslide victory. The trouble with the primary system is that it favors the Democrats' liberal activists, not the best candidate. Biden is an establishment Democrat, a polished and intelligent guy with good people skills, very acceptable to a mainstream that is fed up with Republican rule. The Bush-Cheney regime has ruined the Republican brand, even for many Americans with conservative sentiments.

Biden's propensity for putting his foot in his mouth makes this scenario highly unlikely.

I wonder why no one is making more of his Hezbolah/Lebanon gaffe in the debate?

He didn't know Herbert Hoover was President during the great depression.
He didn't know television wasn't widely distributed prior to 1935.

He's a pompous idiot career politician.

I'd agree with the 15% . . . no-one is gaffe-proof and when you've given over 100 interviews in 120 days then it's pretty much a given that the odd faux-pas will slip in.

Imagine if Palin had given more than her three (?) interviews . . . thw world would have had cannon-fodder for decades.

I think he is being harshly judged, particularly because Palin is such an empty shell . . .

McCain? Yes, prior to his cuddling up to the far-right, a good man, but not really a maverick.

    .
It will be interesting how the unedited interviews play.

Likely better than the heavily edited Gibson/Couric interviews.

Oh? How many speeches has Dick C given lately?
Where has he been and where is he going?
How often is he quoted in the papers?
The VP is the president of the Senate and is FAR less visible than even senior congressmen. It's a quiet position regardless of which party holds the WH.

Except for that weekend when Cheney shot his friend in the face.
Anybody remember Clinton's VP? It wasn't that long ago.

    Sorry, you're just wrong.

Very few- but don't you think both he and Bush are being kept away from the public glare as much as possible to aid the Mccain campaign?

IFILL: Vice President Cheney's interpretation of the vice presidency?

BIDEN: Vice President Cheney has been the most dangerous vice president we've had probably in American history. The idea he doesn't realize that Article I of the Constitution defines the role of the vice president of the United States, that's the Executive Branch. He works in the Executive Branch. He should understand that. Everyone should understand that.

And the primary role of the vice president of the United States of America is to support the president of the United States of America, give that president his or her best judgment when sought, and as vice president, to preside over the Senate, only in a time when in fact there's a tie vote. The Constitution is explicit.

The only authority the vice president has from the legislative standpoint is the vote, only when there is a tie vote. He has no authority relative to the Congress. The idea he's part of the Legislative Branch is a bizarre notion invented by Cheney to aggrandize the power of a unitary executive and look where it has gotten us. It has been very dangerous.

Yeah, we all understand that. No more so than McCain.

But we all don't understand that the VP is a behind the curtains guy/gal.

Aside from being on (opposite ends of) a similar GOP spectrum, McCain and Bush ain't quite drinkin' buddies.

Why didn McCain lose in previous pres elections? Not Republican enough.
Read some of the commentary early on in this campaign -- many of the GOP pundits all said he didn't have a chance. Why? Same reason -- wasn't Republican enough.

Boon Mee even called him GOP-lite.

Seems Biden didn't get the memo.

I agree with you once a Pres is elected the VP generally becomes irrelevant. I also believe Chaney played a major role in his "advisory" capacity in the GWB admin than is generally the rule.

Although I believe Palin will take a distant back seat as VP if McCain is elected, she is during the campaign, going to attract a greater degree of attention and scrutiny because she is a woman. Hence the huge interest in the VP debate.

What makes you think Cheney was any more influential as an adviser than Bush Sr (CIA chief) to Reagan, or Al Gore (umm, Tennessee senator and inventor of the Internet) to Slick Willy?

I watched this deabte with great interest. Palin's replies seemed very rehearsed and I'm suprised she got through through it without any major blunders.

Heh...too bad Greasy Joe's blunders overshadowed Palin's - whatever they might have perceived to have been, eh?

Here's several photos of Governor Palin and the throng that greeted her followed by one of the media covering the event: "The media looked like they wanted to cry. Stunned silence. Disappointed." Check it out.

Heh...the Elite Media Leftards - probably thinking 'this isn't supposed to be happening'!

^ I like that fancy crayon colouring there, Tex. Ya, and it will be Chicago slime balls in exec positions all over the WH.

    Not Joe Biden.

The noms were both in debate training school for several days with stand-ins (a chick congesswoman for Biden, I think) for their opponents. Biden has more political savvy, which is to be expected for his lifetime in office. Palin was not too shabby, IMO.
