Ok I understand that, but then by the same token you can't then say that the infection was from a mosquito bite either. It could have been from any number of things in the intervening period between infection and becoming asymptomatic.
Right but science contends that "there is no proof" so how can it be suggested emphatically, the way it is being, that it can't be transmitted by mossies?? There in lies my skepticism..

    Let's go another direction here..
If science told you tomorrow that there were no proof of stars but yet every night you could see them for yourself, would you still believe them? There was a time not so long ago when noted and trusted scientist thought the world was flat...

How many important countries would that effect, not the UK as we don't have a mossie problem most of the year, got to admit never worried about mossies in the USA so don't think it is such a problem as here in Thailand, where is the investigations into HIV mainly being done? The important countries.

Were going in circles here Ant.. I answered this concisely in my OP already. It stands to reason that if the 'Official' major health organizations originally involved being the CDC in the States and their counter part from Europe cohort-ed and made such a declaration to the medical community then the likelihood of further pursuit would be non-existent..

Given the delicate nature of this information you can assume there were numerous closed door meetings about the entire course of action to be taken from day one... And you can be sure that also included high ranking political figures as well..

That's a dependant assumption, a logical fallacy that assumes it must be true so because this might have occured as well. We're truly into the realms of conspiracy theory now.

Well there are some pretty heavy mosquito populous regions of the States. South Florida has one of the world largest swamps as does Louisiana, up state New York, Alaska big time mossies and I wonder now that I think about it since Alaska is also less densely populated what their rates of HIV are there relatively speaking??

We do spray routinely for mossies with newer poisons in high mossie season but they aren't cheap because they are less harmful to humans and animals. But when I was a child the mossie truck with DDT spray used to come down our block about every couple of days and fog the entire street.. We also had fly overs by spray planes dropping the stuff and still do again in the high season for mossie's...

No...My answer is based on a premise Ant.. If this information was confirmed or still uncertain and they needed to know how to react publicly..

If everyone who had HIV were tested and treated properly, the incidence and spread of the disease could be mitigated or even eventually stopped. But instead let's spend another trillion on pointless wars

    HOW?

Inject into everybodies blood stream mosquito digestive juices to the same concentration as the mosquito??

Would you agree that if a mossie 30 seconds ago had sucked blood from a HIV positive person, that that blood would still be HIV Positive and really foking dangerous on your open wounds?

For how long that blood inside your hungry mossie is still hiv positive is open for debate, they suck a lot of blood for such a small animal, do you think it has something that kills off hiv straight away? ie with in seconds? minutes? hours? days?
I'll go one step further and ask of anyone who disagrees with such a premise would you be a willing to be guinea pig for testing to prove definitively against this premise??
Totally ridiculous, both the premise that mosquitoes spread HIV through their normal feeding habits & the scenario that has now been developed, which involves splatting a mosquito onto an open wound (hands up all of you who can actually ever remember splatting a mosquito onto an open wound??)

So, in answer to your last question in this post, DTW - Yes, I would.

Conversely, I would not be willing to have unprotected sex with someone with HIV even if they were on retroviral drugs, as researchers suggested was safe in the article HB posted on the first page of this debate.

KW when I joined back into this debate I was 3 pages behind and it was still moving ahead like a raging fire. So yes it is very difficult to decipher every intended piece of cryptic humor when that happens so I apologize if I took some your witty responses for something more serious, and they went over my head..

It is serious, the humour is intended to highlight the deficiencies in your arguments.

I don't necessarily share DD's level of concern for the poison issue. I do see a major financial loss and panic though over the possibilities..

In the States there have been much less serious (relatively speaking) infestations of various mossie transmittable diseases just about every year, St Louis Encephalitis and West Nile virus are the most recent that have sparked huge concern..
When these epidemics break out the well meaning officials cancel High school activities at night and no sports etc..And make public announcements about wearing long clothes and using mossie repellent etc.. It's far more dramatic than I can relay on here..

But bottom line these are curable diseases with only hundreds at the most being infected, though some people do die and on a very small scale.

If it were to be announced that mossies could in fact spread HIV/AIDS then imagine the financial collapse of the Premier league, Rugby Union, NFL, MLB, Disney parks, amusement parks the world over, Zoo's, stores would no longer stay open at night because people would not want to be outside after dark, including employees, etc. because those places would all be high risk for not only mossies but people around in large numbers where the disease could spread and people would just stay away out of fear and yes, I believe ignorance too, even with a low likelihood of infection....

And the point is that since it "has not been proven" the real amount of infection possible if any, is an unknown and therefore the prospects are much more frightening to the average Joe citizen..

Huh??? I'm not quite sure how you interpreted my post as disputing your post Dalton.. My reply is to KW's suggestion that I was making this a race issue by my use of African stats.. You clipped only a small quote there but didn't read the entire post apparently where I referenced South America too etc...

Exactly. It's too huge a leap in logic for me. If you consider malaria, a disease that kills millions annually and particularly children, there's not indiscriminate use of pesticides to control that.

Worldwide deaths from HIV/AIDs related illnesses are at roughly the same levels as malaria however the important difference is that malaria deaths are more concentrated (i.e. predominantly 3rd World nations).

So even assuming both were transmitted by mosquito's this doesn't tally with the idea that toxic/poisonous chemicals usage would suddenly spike in 3rd World countries and become a severe health issue in it own right.
