I'm not sure why Britain is being so aggressive with the weapon shipments to Ukraine. Blinken appears much more 'hawkish' than I was hoping for. Biden seems to feel with certainty that a Russian attack in one form or another is immenent. Presumably he knows something that the rest of us misguided peasants doesn't know. After listening to todays press conference (and I think Biden did well with that long and rambling one years in office speech) there can be no doubt that the Russian troops will be moving into Eastern Ukraine, presumably with some loss of life, which personally I find disgusting. So there will be sanctions and severe ones at that. It's a pity things have come to this. I was defintely wrong on my estimates. If there is not to be an invasion then what strategy would entail Biden sounding so certain that an invasion/ incursion is coming.

Like most left wing flakes , you were probably against the Iraq war. At the time, I was serving in the British Army. All UK servicemen and women sign an oath of allegiance to the crown. In peace we train for war. That is our job. As an instrument of government, it’s not our job to determine our deployments or to hold views on the rights or wrongs of it.
In truth, the UK armed forces were unprepared for such deployment, and Brigade level forces were cobbled together from whatever was available at the time. Under such circumstances, we got on with it, improvised and adapted. The expectation for everyone was to get the job done.
And you probably said that the whole thing was based on a pack of lies. The remit of UK armed forces is to get the job done, whatever your personal view is. Armed forces are apolitical. Our role was to support operations at the behest of governments. At the basic level we are concerned about those closest to us, and our survival. The politics of decision making is not our concern. Our primary concern is survival.
