I see Canada has sent a small contigent of military personel into Ukraine which pretty well indicates that there will be no Russian 'invasion'. There is no way the Canadian government would put troops in harms way, no way at all. Many are making comparison to this crisis and what happened in 1914. The dynamics are certainly similar. I still consider it highly unlikely that any Russian troops will be crossing any borders. One has to find it unimaginable that this show is going to escalate further. I consider it highly unlikely that Ukraine would ever receive an invitation from NATO, just ain't ever going to happen. Unfortunate that it's become a bone of contention.

I agree and I would further add that Putin just does this shit to maintain control in his own country. He can get away with most things in Russia as long as he keeps the rich rich and a national perception that Russia is still a massive player on the world stage and one not to mess with. It's all KGB type mind games to keep him in power. The army needs to do regular exercises anyway, so sending them to the Ukraine border instead of Siberia, is no additional cost financially and gives his political points with the nationalists of which are still the majority in Russia.

In 2014 a US administered coup overthrew the neutral government and turned Ukraine into a US ALIGNED COUNTRY. Russia panicked and did what it could to keep Crimea. Just as the UK did in the Falklands in 1982 and Turkey did in Cyprus in 1974.
