Cowboy leaders who take unnecessary risks, push neighbours around and grab land illegally often enjoy stratospheric approval ratings at home. Hitler is an obvious example with domestic support at fever pitch in the 1930s.

It does not make them good leaders in a global context. Unusually high domestic approval rating is often an indicator of a dangerous rogue character.

    (1) He picks the questions and has the answers prepared, hence the Direct Text comment: "Putin, you really think that people believe this circus with its planted questions?"

    (2) He writes the ratings you fucking idiot.

He also fixes elections and murders journalists and opposition leaders.

Christ on a bike, you're as thick as HoHo when it comes to this murderous dictator.

yes, but it was america who went half way around the world to invade iraq because the neo-cons wanted bush to.

and, now europe has to deal with the refugee issues and terrorism while isreal and the neo-cons are laughing at europe (who used to support the palestinians).

putin just took a small part of a country that wanted russian rule: crimea.

Harry thinks this 'murderous dictator' should be deposed so Russia can have a Liberal democracy with free market economics ...just like Iraq

I really am enjoying watching the Putin's Interviews. Regardless whether agreeing or not with his answers, it's not a boring affair the 55 min. He stays with the topic, makes short and clear points, and answer everything without any finest jab on his "friends", even if the question is quite provocative. And quite provocative also straight to his person, he does not shy away from that. Never has a bad word towards anybody (who spoke publicly against him).

And I often laugh aloud after his witty remarks...

Do I think he should be deposed, yes, do I think Russia should be invaded, well that's just some ridiculous assumption you dream up to try and hide from the truth.

How about free and fair elections and not jailing or killing your opposition?

Is that too much to ask?

The good thing about Putin is you actually know what his foreign policy is, and who his friends and allies are. Unlike a certain other country I could name.

If a Potus firmly grasps your hand and calls you a friend (or enemy), count your fingers.

You're right there, he is entirely predictable.

Everything he does is designed to keep him in power and his hand in the country's coffers.

Putin is great, it's just the usual idiots who are jealous of him or too stupid to appreciate him

I won't name names like Harry, but it's too obvious who the usual idiots are

As a matter of fact, the Russian elections were always supervised by international agencies.
And I remember that only from US were comments the next hour, without being there.

I cannot recall whether the US elections were ever observed by something like that?
(Is anybody in position to see into such a show?)

he has high approval ratings in russia, so who is the west to say we don't like him.

thread title: How dangerous is Vladimir Putin?

    not dangerous at all.

and, if hillary had won, her admin wouldn't have talked much at all about russian interference in the election, IMO.

obama didn't seem to mind much that putin helped assad prevent ISIS from getting too close to damascus (which would have been a disaster).

so, thanks to putin for that.

Putin, to put it mildly, is not a nice guy, but you are looking at things from the POV that has been inculcated into you by fake news sites.

In the global context Putin is responding to what can be perceived to be aggressive actions by the west and the instability it has wrought to many regions of the world.

Have a read of john pilger for example, for another pov, he is well respected, but a polemic you got to take with a pinch of salt, however it is worth considering what he has to say, you may or may not agree, but it will create a more fruitful dialogue.

I'm not, I'm looking at it from the point of view that he has raped his country's resources and handed them to his friends, has had both journalists and opposition politicians jailed or killed, and continues to stay in power with a campaign of arrests or imprisonment for those who dare to oppose him.

That's a fucking darned sight worse than being "not a nice guy".

Orange cunto is "not a nice guy".

    Putin is a nasty c u n t.
