How protective are the parents of their little brats? How protective is the school of the parents (fee-payers)? What is the law on corporal punishment there, and what is the norm for discipline?

Was asking an old timer what to do, he told me not to sweat it one parent told him the kids misbehave because you don't beat them and you are not Mongolian. Not a great attitude to work with. The school just does as the parents please, they even let them choose the books, which is a problem seeing as given the fees, I doubt that many are in the educational field

Yes, there is a policy, but it is rarely implemented due to fear of losing students.
From what I have seen, behavior is poor in all grades. I've heard students in Saudi and The Gulf can be a really handfu. True? Still a confused about Thai kids getting a bad rap on Ajarn and such places, probably some the nicest kids I have taught in 11 years.

I've implemented Class Dojo with my second graders, and it appears to be working reasonably well. Feel a bit bad for the dude who got spat on, it's his first teaching overseas gig.

My lack of Mongolian and a poorly chosen curriculum is an issue. A TA would help, nothing wrong with using L1 to support L2 learning when needed at such a young age imo.

I get where Cyrille is coming from, although I plan on sticking it out. What a don't like is how the school tries to excuse such behavior, it's very frustrating when you are trying not only to educate your students but also to encourage them to become decent members of society.

Hey, at least I don't have to use PYP with these kids- I'd be in the mental health wing of a Soviet-looking hospital already
