Everyone was actually warned about how spoiled there were in the interview, perhaps rather naively I didn't think it would be that bad. I did do some TA work in London once, and it wasn't Primrose Hill, but behavior was no way as challenging as this. I'm just seeing it as a challenge to make be a better teacher- no sense in making it a daily negative

How protective are the parents of their little brats? How protective is the school of the parents (fee-payers)? What is the law on corporal punishment there, and what is the norm for discipline?

^ Those are some good questions!
Was asking an old timer what to do, he told me not to sweat it one parent told him the kids misbehave because you don't beat them and you are not Mongolian. Not a great attitude to work with. The school just does as the parents please, they even let them choose the books, which is a problem seeing as given the fees, I doubt that many are in the educational field

So is there any aspect of policy to deal with kids spitting at teachers and threatening violence?

Do you think it will be brushed under the carpet?

    Does it happen frequently?

    Jeez thicko...that's weak.

Siding with the oddball maths guy...not advisable.

Particularly for someone like you, too scared to do anything but add smilies because it might show you haven't a clue what's going on.

A mild mannered email was sent home, I really doubt much will come of it.
Yes, there is a policy, but it is rarely implemented due to fear of losing students.
From what I have seen, behavior is poor in all grades. I've heard students in Saudi and The Gulf can be a really handfu. True? Still a confused about Thai kids getting a bad rap on Ajarn and such places, probably some the nicest kids I have taught in 11 years.

^^On the off-chance that you might understand the point, clearly knowing that the spitter was one of the students helps with context.

Or are you maintaining that the context is still unclear, Maanaam?

    Please say 'yes'.

I've never taught children here and I don't intend to.

But if spitting at teachers is not punishable by expulsion then I'd be out of there.

I've implemented Class Dojo with my second graders, and it appears to be working reasonably well. Feel a bit bad for the dude who got spat on, it's his first teaching overseas gig.

My lack of Mongolian and a poorly chosen curriculum is an issue. A TA would help, nothing wrong with using L1 to support L2 learning when needed at such a young age imo.

Spitting should be reserved for eating times at the table.

    Us kids rule, OK.

I suppose one of these is standard issue:

    Mandaloopy does China-cattle_prod-jpg

But with 50 students per class youre gonna need plenty of batteries.

Could be useful in the long, long, dark evenings though:

The Bactrian camel send saliva as a greeting love offering just as dogs piss on territory birds sing and twats tweet, Earl sends out his cries for help to fertile TheraPISSts etc

    GRATE ESCAPE WINDOW

It's like narrow slatted Thai venetian window, that may close on yer nutz as yer pressure juices evapoarate or freeze

The job can be shit the pay even if its a great place I've put up with some odd places, Colombia, Bosnia, Yorkshire, places and with same CV but applying only to holiday destinations like S of France Tahiti Finland where the sailing, Wine or Sheilas were great .

These Exotic barbarian places Surrey, Australia, Paksitan once the long black nights set in you need a nice warm wolf to suckle and sweet natured honest but cheerful camel to see to your DIDACTIC' needs

    Plan B
    NEW SEMESTER

October they are still hrinig in from Alicante to Moscow a train ride away , Mid East KSA Qatar and Kuwait the grim places for big bucks or UAE Oman etc, Japanese will never run out of panty sniffers while .

If it really goes tits up Siam you could ccycle to Siam get a 28 inch Eagle and teach me Lulu and Maanam pwopa Englsish with hot and old punning nongs and TomYam to spice up yer life, free soi bitches speaker vans and full noon parties

Good luck mate with uncouth youth been there done that, I reckon Toyboy of the mum of the chief bully or warm Glock may be Plan C and D cups, Escaping on a camel , leaping the great Wall , locked in a cave with teenage girls and finally a BJPat in a new pink Tesla chauffered by Stubby all the way to Gullivers Bung Lumpoo Cows Harm Rode , stream it live I'll pay for the change of pants and the twiglets

In the meantime we expect all the curt yurt dirt on a weakly basis, if you complete the contract you win an elastic band twiddly course and my m-in-law

^ That is bloody fantastic 555

I get where Cyrille is coming from, although I plan on sticking it out. What a don't like is how the school tries to excuse such behavior, it's very frustrating when you are trying not only to educate your students but also to encourage them to become decent members of society.

Hey, at least I don't have to use PYP with these kids- I'd be in the mental health wing of a Soviet-looking hospital already

BTW, for those that asked, this is class dojo: https://www.classdojo.com/
To my surprise, it actually doesn't distract the kids during class having it on the TV

So pushing the angry emotional non-native speaker's posts to one side, thanks for the pics.

It's an interesting adventure to follow.

Not sure if it was you, Simon, or both that I recommended the Top Gear Burmese Special to a year or two ago, but Ewan McGregor and his mate's Mongolian episode of The Long Way Round is quality.
