Almost negligible in C Rai now

we live on the edge of farms and apart from stubble burning vehicle exhausts there is virtually zero industrial polltion and while the off BBQ Moo Yang is smokey I know of one person in the area with a real fireplace at rice level, some of the hill people have braziers in the winter as it gets close to zero on Mts behind us at 3am,

My advice even if a well paid dream job is Get outta Dodge, I recall miners lung and old men coughing on way to the colliries as a kid.
Off course the smaller the particles the more hazordous, I imagine a quick visit to a hospital will confirm the risks the local levels are far lower than Bangkok or urban cities, you only get one pair of lungs

Levels below 10 are seen as killers in UK

I think that might be part of the issue for tonight's knock out AQI reading- quite cloudy today so I guess that is holding things in- a windy snow day is needed to clear it.

    Bogon Tip #496

Quite simple to suss out the relation of certain dialects (if any).

Grab any 50 words from each language, write them down using IPA broad transcription (so you have their diacritics) and sort into minimal pairs. Once finished you can identify what words have allophones of the same phoneme and compare to the other languages beside it.

Apparently, Mongolian horses are racist, most end up throwing Johnny Foreigner to the ground. Knowing my luck I will be mauled by a marmot.

^^Yesm but the camel in question must first be bribed with sweets, or it will show a traditional warlike Mongolian attitude.

Had a fantastic day in the countryside- even herded to goats with the nomads

Saw this dude making fast pace of it on the way out of UB- a wise decision. Also the vastness and stillness of Mongolia; totally unique.

After a few hours driving we arrived at a remote nomad camp- well these nomads have built a little house to make it more permanent and bearable for the winter months.

    More gers!

Snacks included salted milk tea, dried curds, fried bread with yak butter- all yummy and fatty.
It was then time to get in the saddle, the last time I did this I would have been around 7

I got a steed that was barely out of ponyhood

Sheep go to heaven, goats go to hell! Stubborn beasts!

I think the most stubborn of all goats ended up in the noodle "stew".

He came to show us his strong nomad muscles, goof about and fall asleep on the floor.
It was then time to hit the road in search of wild horses- genetically they are supposed to be the closest to the "original horses". Doesn't look it, but it was bitterly cold.
    Found some wild horses

    Mandy,

Great pics. There's no point in working abroad and not getting a feel for the place. I've worked in quite a few remote places and always took the opportunity to get to know the locals, its the best way to get insight and really involved in the culture. I've worked with some whities who gave me a really hard time for taking this approach whilst they spent their 12 months+ stuck in cultural isolation - fuckin idiots. Its part of the package of getting to work in these places - and the experiences you get aren't those written about in instafuckin gram or tough guide. well done try to stick it out and see what travel options present themselves whilst you are there.

That's the Russian name for them, Mongolians prefer that you call them gers. I cannot speak more highly of nomadic hospitality.

^Those wild horses have an interesting story, actually. For years it was thought that they had been hunted to extinction, then some folks found some one day and captured them before sending them off to Europe for a breeding program in the Netherlands according to our driver. They were then reintroduced and their natural instincts kicked in. Not pictured, drinking arek- the famous fermented milk drink. Most foreigners don't like it, but I loved it- boozy drinkable creme fraiche.
