In this breathtaking aerial photograph by Jialiang Gao, we see the amazing terraced rice terraces of Yunnan, China. Yunnan’s Yuanyang County is a popular destination with photographers due to the vast areas of nearby mountains which have been cultivated into terraced rice paddies for at least the past 1300 years by the Hani people.

In this fantastic multiple exposure, composite image, we see Nigel Lamb of Great Britain performing during the training for the third stage of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship in Rovinj, Croatia on May 29, 2015.

Across the canyon, which was carved by the Gravina river, we see the ancient city of Matera in southern Italy. It was recently declared the European Capital of Culture for 2019.
At the edge of the canyon you can see the Sassi di Matera, ancient cave dwellings that are suspected to be among the first human settlements in Italy, dating back as early as 7000 BC. Situated in the old town, the historical center of Matera was declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993.

The world's tiniest lizards have been discovered in Madagascar.

One of the world's tiniest lizards has been discovered by keen-eyed researchers in Madagascar. The miniature chameleon, Brookesia Micra, reaches a maximum length of just 29mm. German scientists also found a further three new species in the north of the island.

"They mostly live in the leaf litter in the day... But at night they climb up and then you can spot them," said Dr Glaw, explaining that the animals moved up into branches to sleep. The scientists carefully scanned the most likely habitats with torches and headlamps to find roosting sites.

In this remarkable capture, Julia Butterflies (Dryas iulia) are seen drinking the tears of turtles in Ecuador. The turtles placidly permit the butterflies to sip from their eyes as they bask on a log. This “tear-feeding” is a phenomenon known as lachryphagy which is a type of mud-puddling.

In this stunning night-time capture by Vitaliy Raskalov, we see the bustling metropolis of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Rio is the second largest city in Brazil (after Săo Paulo) and the sixth largest city in the Americas.

Just Googled it. And you can see it on Youtube.

He and the other person in the car were ok ! But those stunned onlookers were frozen for fully 7 seconds after it.

Without factoring in air resistance, about 11 seconds - so actual time would be a bit longer than that, maybe 15 seconds?

    This one made me think.

Hand of Hope – A unborn baby pulls out his hand out of the incision made in the uterus of his mother during an operation and suddenly grabs the hand of the surgeon. It made the surgeon cry and he couldn’t say or do anything for a few minutes

god damn, the universe is powerful. Exactly one year ago I was standing in a coffee shop in Lukla, Nepal (elevation 2860 m, 9,383 ft) surrounded by windows as the sun was rising over the mountains. It was a perfectly clear day, the windows were facing due south so the sun was coming up from our left to right. I was fully clothed for mountaineering, including sunglasses that should protect 99-100% of the sun's ultraviolet radiation, a sun hat that covered all the skin on my neck and long sleeves and gloves. I'm an experienced, although amateur mountaineer, yet my guide felt the need to pull me physically around (I was moving that way anyway) so my back was facing the sun. As the sun was moving I noticed something I'll never forget. The sunlight would appear on the floor in front ot my shoes and noticeably move over them. It would start to move up my leg pants and before it got to my eyes (of course, I was turning away before then) and before I turned away, I felt the heat of it on my shoes. (I performed this experiment more than once) And when able to glance in the quickest way at it, I could not believe it's brilliance. Has anyone experienced this? I wonder if it's a phenomenon of the 11 year sun cycle but I have never noticed anything like it. Here at sea level, in Chiang Mai, the sun can get very bright also. I mean don't-glance-at-it bright. But still you don't feel the heat. It seems like it must be some distance away because it does build up.
