Great Exuma Island in the Bahamas is one of the most recognisable places on the planet for astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

The distinct lines of the tidal channels cut between the small emerald island cays stand out, even from the 400-kilometre-high orbit of the space station.

The channels have been carved out of the rock ridge over millennia, thanks to the relentless daily ebb and flow of the Atlantic Ocean tides across the tropical island chain.

Most of the water in the image is shallow and less than 25 metres deep making it appear light blue.

Even darker are the shadows cast on the ocean surface by passing clouds.

The cays in this image stretch across more than 14 kilometres. They extend west from Great Exuma Island, part of which can be seen in the top right hand corner of the image.

The islands are low and flat, with ridges that usually rise no more than 15 to 20 metres above sea level.

With closer examination it is possible to see a white aircraft with its condensation trails streaking across the second channel from the top of the image.

The Exuma cays are remote from the bigger islands of the Bahamas, a feature which made them popular with pirates such as the famous Scottish sailor Captain William Kidd.

The image was taken by a member of the expedition 44 crew aboard the International Space Station on July 19, 2015.

That attitude is precisely why he would. And you can see, if you narrow your focus to that simple attitude, you could pull it off no sweat. What did it take, 5 minutes of fear?

Calbuco Volcano is located in the lakes region south of Santiago, Chile’s capital city and is one of the 10 most dangerous volcanoes in the country. After more than 40 years of inactivity, the day April 23 the volcano erupts, spewing more than 200 million tons of ash and causing the evacuation of more than 2,000 people. In the picture is seen one of the most violent moments of the eruption, which occurred in the early hours of April 24.

Troll A – The Tallest Structure Ever Moved by Mankind

Located about 80 km off the west coast of Norway is Troll A, a colossal natural gas platform and the tallest structure ever moved by mankind. It’s construction is regarded as one of the largest and most complex engineering projects in history.
Operated by Statoil, the platform was towed over 200 km, from the village of Vats to the North Sea in 1996, where the event was a televised sensation in Norway.

I just had those two pictures printed on canvas and put on a frame. I will put them side by side as the greatest possible contrast of two beautiful pictures.

    Got the first from here.

The martian landscape is real. Photo from Curiosity Rover on Mars. The Dragon spaceship is CGI photoshopped in but after a real craft that will soon launch crew to the ISS. It is capable on landing on Mars too.

It has been said it is a real spacecraft but looks like something from an italian designer for some SF movie..

A photo of Saturn and its rings with the sun behind Saturn by the Hygens probe.

Another photo of the rings with Saturns shadow on it. Note also the hexagon cloud pattern on Saturns pole.

Final destination: Canfranc railway station in Aragon, Spain. Opened in 1928, it was the stunning centrepiece of the line between Béarn and Aragon, across the French-Spanish border. But in 1970 a runaway train destroyed a bridge on the French side. They decided not to rebuild it, and as a result the station was abandoned.

Vehicles sit stuck in a traffic jam near a toll station as people return home at the end of the weeklong National Day holiday in Beijing, China, on October 6, 2015. Fifty lanes (at bottom) vie for 25 toll gates, then constrict down to a five-lane bottleneck
